Did you test the IE8 on your single core ACER ?

Before few hours , the Microsoft update icon pop up .

Yes it was about downloading the latest IE ..

The long story in sort , the IE8 caused extreme boot delay on desktop system (well made P4 single at 3400 ) .
And I did, uninstall it in minutes .
Going back to IE7 , and having back my system, as it was (speedy) .

I did both , desktop and ACER laptop installations at the same time .

And by looking my desktop to not like the new software, I removed it from the laptop too .

Did you noticed any symptoms with the IE8 , or its just me ?

I used the Beta on Win7 and it ran fine on my Aspire 3680 (T1350 Core Solo @ 1.83Ghz). But granted it wasn't an upgrade of IE7 and it was a fresh OS install.

I never really use IE though, I find Firefox a whole lot faster even though it can be a memory hog at times with tabbing.

Well if we talk about taste , ok .. firefox is my best one too.

Technically speaking , my both computers run XP , and the IE8 looks to load a large amount, of extra background services , making the boot time to become larger .

Its possible to be just an IE8 & XP thing .. i do not know.
From the another point of view , if the IE8 needs a quad possessor to feel happy, then its best single core systems , to avoid it .

I have IE8 on my netbook with 1.6ghz atom and 1gig of ram. IE8 is actually more stable and faster on my netbook than firefox 3.0. Like you said, it's probably just you, not everyone else.

Actually if speed is the leading reason you use a specific browser then your choice should be Safari as it blows everyone away in the benchmarks tests.

been reading up on safari and yes it has no Active-x backdoors so is safe in that respect.but it has a few holes in its security that still haven't been sorted.
yes its great on a Mac because there isn't many viruses out there attacking Mac's. but as a stand alone bit of software for windows machines. could be asking for trouble.
I like safari it's very fast but still has a few security issues on a windows machine.
still apple have said they are puting a phishing fillter and a site checker on the next updates. this will slow it down to firefox or even ie standards :(

If you configure everything right, IE 8 and Firefox will be the safest and the fastest browser with the best compatibility. If you want customizability, go with Firefox. If you care about "out of box" experience and awesome "out of the box" UI, then get IE 8. If you know your way around firefox, get IE 8 because it'll be safer (much more frequent security updates through windows update to patch security holes and many other IE only stuff) with default settings and it'll look better. In terms of speed, Firefox 3.0 and IE 8 is about the same. On my all of my computer, IE8 is couple times faster than Firefox since IE8 uses 1 thead per tab. If you have dual core or quadcore computer like I do, IE8 will definetly be faster than FF if you have resource intensive tabs open at the same time. IE 8 is also better in terms of reliability and stability. If 1 Tab fails in IE8 you ran restart and recover the tab without affecting other tabs or the browser itself. If 1Tab fails in FF, the whole browser fails and you have to restart the browser and recover all of your tabs.

Anyways.. the top 2 choice is IE 8 and FF. For powerful computers, IE8 is currently better than FF 3.0 by design. IE8 can do majority of the things that FF can do in terms of customizability. E.g. adblock..etc

I had massive problems installing a few weeks back when BT offered it as a browser upgrade. It changed settings, froze during install, numerous issues. Had free support from MS, tried installing in safe mode etc etc. Went back IE7
Offered again via windows update couple of days back so tried again. Installed perfectly !
My only concern is that the font sizes are "incorrect" on my email client BT Yahoo. So tiny ? Changing the text to "largest" doesnt help much.
No other "issues" though, no crashes or not responding etc... seems quite good APART from the font size thing.

The IE was designed to become part of the OS .
And it does that , and it effecting many system operations .

My complain - issue - problem , about speed , had to do with system boot up ,
from Bios until Log-on , and from Log-on until the last window got loaded.

I care less about the IE software usability on the WEB ....

I consider my self lucky , that the IE8 , did not become the default browser for the windows update mechanism , or else i would had no choice , about removing it from my system .

My boot times seems unaffected. Around 40 seconds from hitting power button to welcome screen and desktop, and a total of around 80 secs for all to load OK including FSecure and Vista sidebar. I could go back to IE7 ( Acronis ) but will probably persevere with IE8.

You can always change it so it would become your secondary browser.. It takes 5 seconds and not worth removing it from your computer.

BTW.. IE 8 didn't affect the boot time of my netbook. Everything is usable from cold boot under 20 seconds.

I have not yet done the update to my AAO but I have already done it on my HP Mini, and boot times seem to be OK.

I will report back after I update my AAO.

The one thing I ALWAYS do with IE, though, is disable the Phishing filter. I find that single thing slows up loading of web pages more than anything else. I have enough anti-spyware programs, as well as a good AV, as well as common sense, to get me through the treacherous world of the internet without using MS Phishing filter.
