Hi.. I just got an Aspire 4720.

Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7300
    (2.0 Ghz, 800 Mhz FSB, 4MB L2 cache)
    nVidia GeForce 8400M G TurboCache
    2Gb DDR2 RAM

When my computer at idle stage, I get the following temperature readings:
    HD: 44C
    GPU: 57C
    CPU #1/ Core #2: 50C
    CPU #1/ Core #1: 47C
    CPU: 52C

This is what i get when either I play a game (Counter Strike) or render with 3D Max:
    HD: 48C
    GPU: 65C
    CPU #1/ Core #2: 97C
    CPU #1/ Core #1: 98C
    CPU: 99C

Is there anything wrong with my notebook? Please advice.

Oh btw, the notebook came with Vista and bunch of software, I've formatted it and currently have XP with SP2.

Thank you and appreciate any input.

    Regards

    :O OMG

CPU 99C?! (MAX Temp for C2D Memron is 100C - at this point your notebook is automatically downclocking to save itself.)

what program are you using to take these readings?

Try using different programs to cross compare...if there's a descrepancy then some app is wrong.

Try using Intel TAT, it is made by Intel so it is as accurate as possible.

    Please keep us posted.

I am wondering if the heatsink was not mounted properly when the notebook was made.

Try using Rmclock or notebook hardware control to monitor your temps and then check them against what everest tells you. If your CPU is nearing 100c your notebook is probably on the brink of auto shut off (because of the high CPU temp).

Thank u all for the replies. I've installed Acer Empowering Framework and ePower Management. By default the the CPU Speed was set to Maximum and Everest was reporting the Core Voltage being 1.4V and CPU was overclocked at an extra 10%. I downvolted it by changing the CPU Speed in ePower Management to High settings and it solves all problem. During idle, Core Voltage at 0.963V and when I run Counter Strike, it automatically goes up to 1.298V and my CPU temperature read at max 65C.

But when I render in 3D Studio Max it still goes up to 99C tho. Anyway, at least I can play games on this 'thing' lol. Thanx and cheers
