I have an Extensa 5235 which I use most the time on the move, today i upgraded it 4gb ddr3 10600 ram and i am going to install an ssd like i did with my aspire 7720g, the question is, it now has an Intel celeron 900 (2.2ghz, 800mhz fsb, 1mb L2 cache) processor which was produced in '09. I also have an intel core 2 duo (1.66ghz, 677mhz, 2mb L2 cache) which was produced in '06, laying around the house.
I was thinking of replacing the celeron with the core 2 duo but the questions i have is this:
    1. Would the fact that the t5500 has a 677mhz cache compared to 800 on the celeron, reduce the speed of my comp? or reduce the speed of the ram?

    2. Would the fact that the c2d uses 65nm technology compared to the 45nm tech that the celeron uses affect the speed or behaviour.

    3. Which would be better on battery life, right now my battery life is extremely good, i use it at uni so i do not need my power supply and it lasts for a good few hours

I mainly use the laptop for google sketchup, occasional autocad, ms office and it runs windows 7 ultimate x64. Which cpu should i use as both use 64-bit, which is faster and better on battery life.

Would the 3 years difference between them mean the celeron has better technology than the c2d.

    Thanks in advance everybody.

The Core 2 Duo T5500 is not compatible with your laptop because the socket is different.

Intel Celeron 900 uses socket PGA478.
    Core 2 Duo T5500 uses socket PPGA478.

Not quite - both are called PPGA478 (PGA478 was the old Pentium 4 desktop socket); but T5500 is Socket M, while Celeron 900 is Socket P. You need a T55 50 (or a newer series) to upgrade.

are u sure? They seem to fit? Its the celeron 900 2.2ghz not 900mhz, if i cant use the t5500, wot can i upgrade it too without sacrificing battery life? My aspire 7720g has a t7500 and an ssd and i want to do the same with this, i neeed to ditch the celeron as long as there is no sacrifice in battery life

    Thanks everybody

You can upgrade to a T55 50, or any T7000/T8000/T9000-series CPU with a 800MHz FSB. T55 00 is for Centrino Napa machines.
