    Thanks for the replys everyone.
I have run the disc clean-up & deleted a lot of things, also removed programs and I have my disc space up to 12%.
    Any other advice?
    Thanks again , Jim.

If you have 12%, then try to defrag; maybe it'll work. If not the default windows defragger, you can try with something that defrags under relatively less space, like the new version of Diskeeper.

I haven't confirmed it personally, but I recall reading somewhere that more than the absolute % of free space, what is required for a defrag is free space amounting to atleast twice the size of the largest fragmented file. So if your file sizes are not very large, you should probably be able to defrag even with less than 15% free space.

    Get a larger hard drive.
    Transfer existing image to it.
    Swap drives.
Use old drive as external storage.

Try the following to remove more temp files than windows can.

    CCleaner
Advanced windows Care - by iobit
    EasyCleaner - by toni arts

If you disable Hibernation, you can get rid of a huge information file (several GBs of data?) Vista keeps just for that. Of course, you won't be able to use Hibernation unless you re-enable it at some point.

But really, you should put stuff you need to STORE (videos, music, movies, etc.) on D: drive and not on C: drive (if your HD is divided into two partitions as is often the case nowadays). Even then, you should be keeping D: cleared by burning DVDs to get that stuff off D.

C: should only be used for programs you want to install, D: should be for storage TEMPORARILY until that stuff does onto DVDs....this is a simple way (Rule of Thumb) to keep your HD from getting trashed-out.

If you still fill up C: with programs, then you need to (1) not use so many programs or (2) get a larger HD.

    It's pretty much that simple.

    Merry Christmas,

cut and paste from C: to D: mate or when you are installing new stuff or you have photos you want to keep.start a new file in D: and store them there.
so when you reload windows D: and the files on it should be safe :)

    Merry Christmas all

Thanks a lot for all the help, I have managed to move a bunch of stuff from C drive to D. That gave me 19% free space on C.
I was able to defrag. and everything seems to be fine,so far so good.
Thanks again, merry Christmas to all, Jim.
