    Hey guys!

I've been looking all over to find out whether or not I can fit a drive (such as the WD10TPVT) with a height of 12.5mm in the AS5740G.

I've got a need to store a lot of data on the laptop, so the speed of the drive isn't as big of a concern (though I'd kill for a 1TB drive with 7200RPM; bonus points if it ran quiet).

Has anyone tried to upgrade their stock HDD with one of these as of yet?

No clue - I'd go with the 750GB WD7500BPVT at 9.5mm to ensure it fits.

Even if a taller drive fitted it will lose airflow cooling . . best to stick to the dimensions of your original drive or at least to a size that was an option fitted to the model range at the time

    Bru,

this is good advice. I was just asking as I would have ordered the HDD when I ordered the laptop and get it all done in one shot.

Looks like the WD7500BPVT is definitely smaller. Good to have options :)

    Thanks guys!

@BruBoo: No kidding about airflow. I stuffed a WD6400BEVT in my system yesterday, and it's running a little on the warm side; heck, it even reached critical temperatures when I accidentally covered the vents on the bottom for an hour.
