I'm planning on getting an Acer that doesn't come with a battery and need to know if I can run my Aspire 5920g with just the adapter and no battery?

Yes it can. I do this all the time (including right now) with my 3810t.

Would it depend on the power adapter you're using since I don't have an original one?

You should search the internet as well as take a close look at owner's manuals.
I'm pretty sure that I recall reading that while it can be done, it is not a good idea.

I'd look into this more closely.

I NEVER have the battery in my 6930G. My laptop cooler then blows cool air in keeping it ultra cool.

A reputable computer magazine recommended that when using the Mains you should REMOVE your battery since one of the biggest killers of batteries is heat.

    YES YOU CAN. :)

My Acer's battery is in the refrigerator, wrapped in plastic to keep it dry. It sits there at about 40% charge. It should last a VERY long time like that. I still take it out and drain and recharge it every 2 months just to keep it healthy. I run my laptop on AC power ALL the time. The battery is for travelling, something I don't really do much of.
