Depends where you are, really. Buy.com do charge sales tax in *some* states:

    California
    Maryland
    Massachusetts
    Tennessee

That list rules them out for me. ZipZoomFly have the laptop with no tax anywhere except California, and free shipping for $1964.99. PCNation have the laptop for $1965.81 with free shipping, but don't provide a list of states in which they charge sales tax.

It also depends what you want. Buy.com charges $600 extra for Acer's best extended warranty, which adds two years more coverage, and includes accidental damage coverage for all three years of the warranty. ZipZoomFly don't offer the warranty at all. PCNation sell the laptop with that extended warranty for $2127.04 - only $147.05 more than Buy.com want for the 1-year warranty version that doesn't cover accidental damage. (The warranty can be bought for $160 elsewhere by itself, but I have no idea if buying the warranty from a different retailer than the laptop might cause a problem).

So yeah, swings and roundabouts. What city / state are you in, and do you want the warranty or any accessories?

MWave charge for shipping, though... Hence that'll be more expensive than Buy.com *and* PCNation.

I would strongly consider Page Compuers out of FL

I have made everal purchases such as microdrives for my pda and other accessories. They have a great reputation and good clean website. Their pricing is that of below newegg and buy.com on many items. They carry a lot of acer products including the 5672WMLI with ati 1600 just below 1100.xx

Their prices change daily, and I imagine if you were nice they could possibly get you a build number if their is a way to read that from the external box code.

    A link below:

    http://www.pagecomputers.com/store/...ategory_name=68g68c284s2388&product_id=996505

Their shipping is very reasonable. 12-15$.

I am thinking about the 8200 as well. Decisions....

Sorry I havent posted before, Im a lurker and reasearcher. Ive worn out the links on this site and nbf. I want to know all my options. The asus BOA models have me intrigued as I love to build computers. Z96J maybe in my future. Not sure. Now the ferrari 5000 surfaces in print at least. Im confused.

Maybe its all in my head. THis sony vaio will last forever :) Vaio FX210. (No I cant play any of the new games ) with my 8mb ati rage mobility

Personally, I wouldn't go near Page with a 100 foot barge pole. The highest satisfaction ratings they've had on ResellerRatings.com in the last six months has been just a hair over 5/10 - and their ratings have been lower than 3/10 inside the last six months. That's for overall satisfaction. Likelihood of future purchases gets down to 1.25 out of 10 as recently as February.

Currently, their average rating over the last six months is 3.69 out of 10 for satisfaction, 2.82 out of 10 for likelihood of a future purchase, and a shameful 1.79 out of 10 on product returns / replacements.

Shame, because it looks like at one time they had at least a reasonable rating, but as is now I just wouldn't risk it to save $100.

Sounds like you're in the same boat as me. I'd advise waiting until pricing / availability of the Ferrari 5000 is announced, then make your decision. That'll probably be within the next week or so, in the runup to Computex Taipei, a huge computer show in Taiwan, Acer's home.

Then once availability is announced, you'll have an idea of when Turion 64 X2 Mobile notebooks will be shipping. If it is within a timeframe you can live with, you'll either be able to get a T64 X2 Mobile laptop, or likely get a Core Duo at a fair discount (given that Intel have suggested they're going to drop their prices to compete with AMD).

Initial previews have suggested the Core Duo to be faster and have better power consumption under heavy utilisation, but the Turion 64 X2 Mobile to have better sleep-mode power consumption (ie. when idle), and it is obviously 64-bit whereas the Core Duo is 32-bit - something which doesn't matter much yet, but will when Windows Vista ships. That's probably at least a year away, though.

I didnt read much on page computers, Like I said I have purchased some stuff from them with great contact and response to questions and inquiries before purchase. I ran into their name on aximforums as I own an X50v pda as well.

Your thoughts are appreciated though. i do like newegg a lot, and zipzoomfly as well.

Thanks for the advice on the roadmap for laptop pricing within next few weeks. I definately have the itch.

I live in Dallas, Texas... so the tax from Buy.com and other websites like it doesnt affect me. I will probbably wait for the Ferrari 5000 specs and release date before I do anything, because I need the laptop to last around 3-4 years, so running vista to the max with a 64 bit chip is important, but I also want a graphics card along the lines of a x1600... and i dont care about warranty

POWERSELLER NYC gets my vote :D

Buyer Beware might be a safe position to take.

I wouldn't consider them. They've not got enough data on ResellerRatings to give an accurate picture, and if you look at the user comments almost all of the positive feedback is from single-rating users, and all the multi-rating users seem to have given negative reviews.

That suggests to me that ElectroDiscounts are quite possible a scam, and could be faking their reviews.

MPSuperstore's current rating is good, but their lifetime rating is poor, and again it looks to me like they might have been faking positive reviews to boost their ratings...

No rating history at *all* on ResellerRatings. A *very* generic website. A Brooklyn address (which is where the great majority of tech-related web stores are based, that practice bait and switch, hard-sell on extended warranties and accessories, debundling - where they take things that should be in the product bundle and try to make you pay extra for them, parallel imports with no US warranty, or some combination of the above.) No listing with the Better Business Bureau. Identical address to Click4TVs.com ( http://www.pricerunner.com/retailer/21091/) which has a VERY bad lifetime rating on ResellerRatings.

If I had to choose one retailer in this thread so far that I would avoid, this would be the one.
