The fan on my Ferrari 5000 just gave out. My laptop is long out of warranty, so no help from Acer. They told me to call their paid support line at $2.77 a minute, which is highway robbery and would probably cost me more than buying a replacement fan and installing it myself.

Unfortunately, all I've been able to find online is a complete fan + heatsink + heatpipes deal at http://www.notebooksolutions.ca/zc/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=66_140&products_id=2964 which is kind of expensive.

The fan itself is a Sunon MagLev (full details at end of post). Does anyone here know of a place where I could get either an exact replacement or a compatible one? Extensive Googling hasn't turned anything up for me.

I doubt that you would be able to only get the fan alone..!! you could search on ebay using the part no. and u might come across a cheap fan for it....

Maybe try to get Acer's resellers support number and order a part through that. Just say you are repairing a clients computer and would like to order some parts, nothing illegal and may be the easiest thing.

You know, as much as I enjoy Acer, I get very angry when I read posts like the OP posted. ****, Acer needs to learn to provide consistently good backup for their products (It varies from excellent to absolute crap - depending on where you are where you purchase the product).

WTF (Acer) is the purpose of pushing people away and basically forcing them to buy a different brand lappie next time round because of crappy service given to a person who needs the most basic component to keep his lappy happy.

A simple fan. Stupid and nonsensical on Acers part.

Now a top of the range Acer Ferrari owner is angry. For a replacement fan that costs next to nothing compared to the rest of the lappie......

Madness. Acer needs a shakeup. From top to bottom in the service backup area. Somebody in control is too stupid or lazy to do their job properly......

Good product and no service backup = once bitten twice shy...

    Good bye

    Cheers,
    Theo

good post TJ,, and i could not agree more...

acer needs to concentrate on the customer support... i know the newer Aspire laptops seem to be a lot easier to work on and upgrade,,, but still a $50 fan is just STUPID..... and that's the price for the FAN ONLY for Aspire 5315... when i saw the price of that heatsink w/ fan... i was expecting $50..
but $75 for a FAN..... like you said WTGoshDarnFreakinHell

    Thanks Big O

I am in the service industry myself (TV's). I pride myself on my work. I either do it properly and/or give the right advice or leave alone.

Never take chances. I have a good reputation to maintain.

You can take a second rated product and make it rock with proper service backup. You can make it the best.

You can take a first class product, give it stupid/zero service backup and ruin it. You can make it the worst.

    Cheers,
    Theo
