From user experience I can say that the best driver I've ever used for this laptop is the 6.12. With the new 7 series my fps dropped enormously therefore I reversed back to to old 6.12.(especially in counter strike source 45 fps to 27 fps, and in fifa 2007 60 fps to 30 fps)
    Anyone having the same problems with 7.1, 7.2 , 7.3, or 7.4?

    Any comments?
    Suggestions? :)

Newest drivers are always be the best ones. If any program is having compatibility issues on the newest drivers, you have to wait for patches and/or a new GPU driver.

Newer drivers are always better for newer hardware. :D Although ATi has some pretty good legacy support, I don't think any of the recent drivers has dealt with anything pre-X1k in a while. Anyway, I haven't had any serious performance drops with my X1600 on the latest 7 series although I agree that 6.12 seemed to have performed better than the new 7 series.

I currently have the Omega 3.833 drivers installed, and most of my games run great. However, I'm having major problems with my Dues Ex: GOTY direct2drive edition, and I'm looking to switch back to normal ATI drivers.

Thing is, I initially installed the ATI 5672 graphics drivers directly from Acer when I recently reformatted, and the screen kept flashing white right after the Win XP loading bar when I booted up. Also, I was unable to update Catalyst to 7.4, since the my laptop didn't pass ATI's verification check.

That verification check is little more than a scam...go to our gaming forum and you'll find a sticky there on how to get the installer that does not do the verification check.

My opinion is that, unless you know you are having a driver-related problem, you are better off sticking with the driver that your computer came with rather than upgrading to the one from the device manufacturer's site. This is especially so with laptop computers.
