    Acer 5920...Vista

Vista sucks in my opinion and i want to format and use XP service pack 3. I'm
pretty good with desktops and can format ect no problem but as the laptop
came with no disc what drivers will i need once i format.
Graphics drivers, sound, wireless drivers what drivers will i need to try and save.

Vista is just to much trouble for recording music and as Windows 7 is due
in 2010 i dont see much point in me learning vista.

Are the drivers ect easy to save.

    thanks
    Mark

I would say...look on the website for the drivers for your laptop (xp drivers). Sometimes xp drivers are different from vista...so you can't just use the same drivers that you had in vista. If that dosn't work, then look for individual drivers for each componet. Make sure you put the wireless driver on a flash drive (or use a diffferent computer)...because having your wireless/internet is essiential to retrieving the other drivers.

    Thanks for those links....appreciated...
I was so p----- off with vista last night i went and
got my XP disc to format and install it but decided
    to check things out 1st.
1 thing i did notice in the bios was the booting from
1st device if i remember you hit two letters to change
the device, up and down buttons to change the bios
page, i tried pressing the letter but nothing seemed to
    changed.
I was trying to change 1st device to cdrom, should pressing
the letter button change it. On my desktop just now and
all info makes for a smoother format.
I read some of the forum and it's in my faves, plenty info
i must say, is the bios pretty user friendly ?

So you want to change the boot priority right? In BIOS if I remember correctly you have to go to the boot section and using the F5/F6 keys you change the sequence. Or you can enable the F12 option from the BIOS(main page) and then during POST you hit the F12 key and select the device you want to boot from.

    Another thing.
If you attempt to install XP you will need SATA driver slipstreamed on the CD...otherwise XP Installation won't see your HDD.
    OR
You can change the HDD mode from AHCI to IDE(if you have that option in the BIOS) and in that case you won't need the SATA driver.

follow the CD & INTERNET method in the above link to create an XP CD with SATA drivers embedded using NLITE to create the disk.. (very good walk thru on creating the disk) (the SATA driver on that page will work for your model)

i would not use the BIOS to switch to IDE... by doing this you loose some of the performance benifits of having a SATA drive...

then after installing XP..... BE SURE THE REALTEK SOUND DRIVER is the VERY FIRST driver installed... it will solve a problem you could encounter later if you don't install that driver first..

XP loaded on perfectly and seems to be running smoothly, have not
tried setting up the wireless connection yet, do i need software for
    that.

One thing in the device manager is showing faulty PCI bus 6 device,
what should i be looking for there ?. One thing i liked about it with
Vista when i got it was the ease in which the wireless worked so
i'll try that tommorow but i'm happy it's looking the way i want it
and just a couple of little niggles to sort out.

    I'll check that link tommorow....thanks

If you have wireless and you don't see it installed - then yes the unknown device could be you wireless.

    No problem.

I'm guessing it's Intel...Download this and try to see what model is..

If it's really Intel this driver may do the trick.
