Ok so I decided to try restoring my TM4202 using my recovery DVD that I burnt when I first got it. Well it was almost all the way through and then said there was an error with a file and when I exited and rebooted I got the missing NTLDR
    message

Can I restore my laptop with only the hidden ACER partition which is intact and untouched if my DVD won't work?

I'm freaking here a bit

Oohh... I hate to just tell you 'no', but it's possible. You may have to call Acer and have them send you some recovery CD's (pisses me off that companies don't just do that crap by default any more).

all is not lost, not to worry my friend ;)

But it does appear that your backup dvd is either scratched, or was not created properly. If you try to restore windows on a broken disk it will not load (this is obvious).

The suggestion I would have is if you have a RECOVERY partition on your hard drive that you run it, this will reset windows back to default. If you no longer have this..... well get in contact with me and I'll give you a couple options for getting you back on your feet.

Thank you both for the replys. So luckily I made an image of my C: partition before I tried using the recovery DVD and I have been able to get back to where I was, but I'm still stuck in a way.

Here's the history of my laptop; I burnt the recovery DVD the first time I turned it on but I used a DVD-R as that is all I had, there were no error messages and I hadn't noticed that my DVD burner only like DVD+R.
I converted my partitions to NTFS and later repartitioned D: and installed Ubuntu on it. Some where along the way I managed to disable the built in Bluetooth and now that I have a Bluetooth enabled phone I'd like it back.

The problem is I seem to have disabled the Bluetooth on a BIOS level as it's not detected as a device in Windows no matter what I try... I thought I would restore my laptop to the factory default to see if I could get it back that way but now it looks like my restore DVD is defective.

So I could go out and just get a USB Bluetooth adapter for $20.00 but that still leaves me with a jacked restore DVD that I can no longer rely on plus because I switched to NTFS I can't use the eRecovery to create another.
I still have the hidden ACER partition although I think installing Ubuntu and then restoring the MBR has removed access to it during boot... I tried Alt+F10when the recovery didn't work and nothing happens.

Does anyone know of a way I can get back to factory default and start over?

Okay, so I have been searching through the forum here for answers on how to get the Alt+F10 option back so I can recover my system (currently it just puts out a loud beep when I try it at boot). I have been reading through this thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=11476&page=4 and have extracted some of the recovery files including MBRWRWIN.EXE which I think may allow me to fix the MBR and get access to Alt+F10 function.

So now I just need to find an old 98 CDROM, boot to DOS and then try running MBRWRWIN.EXE and see if it fixes it.... Unless anyone has any other ideas?

Just thought I'd post that the DOS app MBRWRWIN.EXE that I extracted from the ISO in the Recovery CD fixed my MBR and let me ALT+F10 and restore my TM4202 :) Hopefully anyone else out there with a similar issue will find this thread through the search.

I personally would send it to ACER under warranty. Register your laptop at the acer site first then call them.

They will send you back in perfect condition. I had to send back my 1804 twice when I was discovering linux. They never gave me a problem :)
