I have a Acer Aspire 7720-6155. When I boot it up, I get the following message:

    "BOOTMGR is compressed
    Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart"

I tried putting in the Vista disk and choosing the cd to boot first in the bios, but I keep getting the message. Is there a way to force the computer to boot from the cd? I have no idea why we started getting the message or why it won't boot from the disk.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Hello darthmikeyd, and welcome to the forums!

That error message only seems to show up when you've enabled disk compression on your operating system drive. Did you tick "Compress this drive to save disk space." on the C: drive in Explorer?

You can fix it from your Vista DVD using this method or that method.
If you aren't booting from CD automatically, try enabling the F12 Boot Menu in BIOS and then pressing F12 when prompted to force your system to boot from the DVD.

Thanks for the response. I did not tick the "compress this drive to save disk space". Don't need to, have enough room on the drive.

I enabled the F12 boot menu, and everytime I select the DVD drive, I still get the message. It sounds like it is starting to read the disk, but then it just ends up with the message showing up. I put the disk in another computer to make sure there wasn't something wrong with the disk, and I got the Windows installation screen, so I know the disk is fine and should boot with no problem.

Does anyone have any other ideas?

    Thanks

Try removing the hard drive and attaching it to another computer - it might help diagnose the problem, or at least let you copy everything off it so that it can be formatted and you can reinstall from scratch.
