I've been trying to upgrade the bios on my friend's ACER TM 292e for a while to enable intel's wifi but. His laptop has bios v1.2. I need to upgrade to v1.6 or above.

I tried the upgrade both under Windows an under DOS and no vail. Each time I receive an error message:
"The project ID is not correct" or
"The ROM file size is not correct"

The BIOSs I tried from the upgrae are from Acer FTP.

Try disabling all flags (in the Advanced Options) if flashing through WinPhlash....

    Andy
you mean the advanced options of the bios? right?

    Edit:
No option to turn the flags in the Advanced tab of the BIOS nor any other menu in the BIOS.

    That's right
    TM 290e like my friend's with a Celeron M
TM 290 which is like the TM290e but has a Pentium M instead of the Celeron M
TM 290d with a Pentium M and Ati dedicated/descrete graphics.

The TM290e (my friend's) was sold with antenna but without wifi. It doesn't have support for intel nor Acer wifi modules. The support for intel wifi modules was added in BIOS v1.6

The Acer wifi module I tested is IPN2220. The switch to turn the Wifi/bluetooth ON and OFF has no effect. I mean that when pushed I see "wifi ON" or "wifi OFF" in the screen (through Launch manager) but physicaly the wifi module stays OFF.

    I know.

1- from a spec point of view the only difference between the TM290 & TM290e is the CPU.
If the mobo is the same in both I should be able to upgrade the bios. Isn't it?

2- What's the point of selling a laptop with antenna and mini pci if we can't add a wireless to it?

3- I forget to say I contacted Acer and they refuse to help...

    i've found TM290 bios files.....

THEY ARE TOTALLY DIFFERENT FROM 290E files...
check CPU-Z and see which bios version and what the name of the motherboard is

once i know for sure which version of the 290 you have i can point you to the correct bios... but until then... we're stuck
