    Will the latest Vista BIOS V1.24 allow the 9410 to boot with 4GB of RAM?
    Think I'm running the original V1.16 BIOS with one 2GB stick and one .5GB stick.
    I'd like to run two 2GB sticks. When I try, it won't boot.

    Unless you're running 64 bit Vista, you can only use 2.5-3.2GB of memory. How much depends on the system.

    If you tried 2x 2GB inside the laptop and it's not working ... can you tell me what exactly happens?

    It's possible the BIOS doesn't fully support 4GB just yet ... and there is certainly a possibility the new BIOS (1.24) will support it.
    But you have to be careful upgrading the bios given the fact there's a possibility it can fail and brick the laptop.
    Have you tried powering up the laptop with only 2GB inside and thus testing each slot/stick individually?

    whatt?? really? all this time i have thought my 8920's vista supports 4 gb ram even though it's 32 bit one because it's the ultimate one. So you're saying that my other 1 gb is wasted? or it's being used by my video card (if that's what 'dedicated' means)?

    Here are the amounts of RAM reported by BIOS, Vista System, and ACER eSettings:

    Slot 1 512 MB
    Slot 2 2GB
    BIOS: 2038 MB, Vista Sys: 2038 MB, eSettings: 2.5 GB
    ===============================================
    Slot 1 2 GB
    Slot 2 empty
    BIOS: 2038 MB Vista Sys: 2038 MB eSettings: 2.0 GB
    ===============================================
    Slot 1 2 GB
    Slot 2 2 GB
    Black screen, no post
    ===============================================

    Slot 1 2 GB
    Slot 2 512 MB
    Black screen, no post
    ===============================================
    Slot 1 empty
    Slot 2 2 GB
    BIOS: 2038 MB Vista Sys: 2038 MB eSettings: 2.0 GB
    ===============================================

    So how much memory is actually available to the system when eSettings reports 2.5 GB, and BIOS and Vista System both report 2038 MB?

    Good point. Not sure whether this 9410-2597 can recognize more than 2 GB.
    Even though ACER eSettings reports 2.5 GB installed, BIOS and Vista System only show 2038 MB. Would a matched set of 1 GB outperform one 2 GB installed alone?

    This model ACER seems like a hybrid between the 9410 and the 9410Z. It has the T-2060 and Intel 945GM.

    ACER tech support has been abysmal.

    For the first time I noticed "9410Z" on the front of the case. So this is definitely
    not going to take more than 2 GB. Anyway, with 2 GB RAM digital TV comes in without frozen frames- which is all I wanted anyway.

    Depends upon the chipset.

    I guess the 9410Z uses the 940/943GML chipset, which will address and recognise 2GB max.

    The 9410 which uses the 945GM/PM chipset, can recognise 4GB, but will address 3GB max.

    (Anything else, its a BIOS thing)

    The specs for the 9410Z say 943GML, but Intel's Chipset ID utility says that it has a 945GM, as does ACER eSettings Management. CPU-Z reported a 943GL, though.

    You sure its reported as 943GML ?

    CPU-Z usually reports i943/940GML. What CPU does your notebook has ?

    EDIT: Wow, I can read. You've got the T2060. So, the chipset must be the 943GML. It can recognize upto 2GB. Actually the memory controller has a hardware lock, which does not allow you to go above 2GB physically. Even if you managed to go slightly above 2GB, the chipset will address only 2GB or 2048MB.

    Good Morning.

    I have a ACER Aspire 9411, 9410 series. The chipset that has is the Mobile Intel 945PM. I installed 4GB of RAM, 2+2, and the BIOS do not recognize full memory configuration. BIOS Version 1.13. T2050, 1.6Ghz, CPU installed

    With this setup, and booting the Linux kernel PAE extensions, I run the following instruction:

    #lspci
    00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/PM/GMS, 943/940GML and 945GT Express Memory Controller Hub (rev 03)
    00:01.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/PM/GMS, 943/940GML and 945GT Express PCI Express Root Port (rev 03)

    I do not sure than chipset model installed.

    Anyway, does not acknowledge either the graphics card, NVidia GeForce Go 7300. The kernel does not load the nvidia module and reports that there is no device. Neither recognizes the full memory configuration, 4Gb.

    This kernel, with PAE extensions and 2Gb configuration, load nvidia module perfectly and I have not problems with the operations.

    My doubt is whether to update the bios to 1.24 can resolve these problems.

    Thanks in advance guys

    POST. I installed 2.5Gb, 2Gb+0.5Gb, BIOS recognize 2,5 Gb configuration. Linux running perfectly. Kernel load nvidia module.
