    HI guys
I have an Acer 5102 that came with the above wireless Network Adapter.

I had always noticed that compared to my desktop, my wireless download speed was about half of what my wired desktop was.

    I have a 4mbps cable connection.

Using speakeasy for example, my desktop measures approx. 3990 kbps, where my Laptop would always be around half of that or 1990 kbps. (This is multiple tests from the same server).

Anyway, I though maybe this was normal until my son used my wireless connection with his Mac Laptop (I have a Linksys Router by the way), and his was much closer to my Desktop speeds (and the rated speed of my ISP).

I thought what the heck, so I tried downloading the Driver from the Acer Site:
    http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/fo....com&siteid=7117&areaid=2&formid=3394#results

Even though it's the same version (I already had v4.2.2.7 according to device manager), I un-installed the old driver and installed the 'new' one.

Now my speeds are much better (around 3300 kbps)

    Some problems though.
    1. Even though I thought I completely removed all remnants of the original Driver, now my Wireless connection comes up as: "Wireless connection #2" (As if the 1st one is still there).

    2. Why is what appears to be the same driver version all of the sudden faster than my original?

    3. Has anyone used the "Atheros 802.11 a+b+g Wireless Lan Driver" from the Acer Site?
It comes in a zipped folder, and when unzipped, there is an executable (installer), which installs an Atheros Program Folder in addition to the Driver. (There never was a program folder before).

Am I doing something wrong? (I couldn't just 'update the driver' in Device manager, because it said I was already using the most current driver.

What have your experiences been when installing (or reinstalling), the driver from the Acer site for the Atheros Wireless Network Adapter, and why is the new installation coming up as adapter "number 2"? (Only one shows in Control Panel under network connections by the way, and everything seems to be working fine)

Any experiences or help with this would be appreciated.

I understand if nobody wants to suffer through that long post above.

Maybe someone could just tell me if there is a better or newer driver for the Atheros AR5005G Network Adapter, other than the one available at the Acer site above? (They don't seem to be readily available).

And also what your procedure has been for updating or re-installing this particular driver?

    Thanks!
