My S7-392-9890, which I've had for about three weeks with a number of irritating issues, today developed a deal breaker. It started unexpectedly and instantaneously switching off while on battery mode. Plugged it in and noticed that the battery light would go off for no reason sometimes as well. Having been through the Acer forums, it now seems that this is a big issue with all S7s. Since I'm working on a PhD dissertation that I cannot afford to lose, I can't have a computer that shuts off at will.

Called MicroCenter, where I got the computer, to see what could be done. Turns out they are now selling it for $150 less than when I bought, and I was told this was because Acer has discontinued my model (don't know if it applies only to the 9890 or all S7s). Is this true? The 392 came out only in the summer. Have these shut-down and other issues (e.g. wifi connectivity) that seem to plague these machines made Acer give up on them? Or did the person to whom I was speaking not know what she was talking about?
