I haven't used it in months. This morning, I attempted to turn it on. Nothing. Plugged in the charger and let it charge all day. Or so I thought. Tried again to turn it on this evening. The two little padlock icon green lights turn on. So does the on/off button when I press it. But the machine still won't boot up. Any suggestions?

Apparently dead COMS battery can prevent notebook from starting. I don't know why but it has happened more than once. Anyway you may want to replace it.

I suspected as much...Do you know which compartment in the back that I need to open up to fish it out? There are 3 options. Thanks.

Well, it is model # ZA3. It has one of the 11.6" screens. Got it from Costco @ a year ago or so for $265.

It may not be easily available at all.
See here for what's-what in terms of dismantling the notebook and those compartments.
If any- the wireless one seems to be the most likely to house CMOS battery.

The images are great. Seems simple enough to remove keyboard. I've done things like this before although laptops can be a pain to dismantle. Still, he covers everything but pulling the CMOS battery. I don't see any indication where this battery is located. What a drag.

you're going to have to disassemble the entire unit, which is not that hard at all, as I have done it to add an internal bluetooth module. The hardest part is removing the keyboard, so I suggest not using a metal flat head screwdriver, and instead use 2 credit cards... the former caused me to scratch my aspire one. Use one card to push down on the tab on top, and another to prop up the keyboard until it pops out.
