    Hi, planning to replace the m/board on my spare 7720G and have two options..........MB.AHH02.002 or MB.AHH02.001. Could anyone tell me the difference or indeed, is there a better option?

    thx

    Get the 001. The 002 is for the 5720G, with front panel audio connectors soldered directly on the motherboard, to match the 15.4 inch chassis. The 001 has a connector for the 17.1 inch chassis's breakout board instead.

    It is possible to convert one into the other with a little soldering, but it is better to get the correct version in the first place.

    Thanks =.NetRolller

    Finally got the chance to pull the board. It's labeled as an 001 but also has the audio connecors soldered on & connector for the breakout board.
    This board crashed during a bios(1.45) update, is it worth trying to repair or is it for the bin do you think?

    A "BIOS" update failure is very easy to fix on this platform, because what it uses is not really a BIOS, but an EFI.

    To fix it, rename the BIOS image you want to flash into the board to "ICL50HW.FD" (the file size should be 1MB), burn it to a CD, and perform an Insyde EFI recovery procedure as follows:
    1. Remove the battery from the computer, and unplug the charger.
    2. Press and hold Fn+Esc.
    3. Plug in the charger. The power button should briefly flash orange.
    4. Release Fn+Esc.
    5. Press the power button. Fan should spin up. Display and all LEDs will be blank.
    6. Put the CD with ICL50HW.FD into the machine's CD drive.
    7. After a few minutes, the machine will shut down. At this point, it should be ready to use; if not, try also clearing CMOS by shorting the battery leads on the mainboard (usually not needed; the EFI stores most of its settings in the flash chip itself, CMOS is used only for things like real time clock).
