Last week I restored by computer to it's original settings without recovery cd's per the user's guide instructions.

Since then it shuts down randomly. Sometimes it's running for 15mins, 1/2 hour, or even 2hours later... From the time I did the restore this has been happening. It seems that it's very hot and per a friend I've gotten a new battery and power supply (that's the 2hr stretch of usage!) but I still have my problem.

Is there somewhere that will tell me an error code of why it is shutting down? I have a feeling it's too hot, or thinks it's too hot.... but I don't know how to verify that or if it's possible.

I'm about to go nuts and start tearing it apart just for something to try... please any help or suggestions.

    Rani.

    Hi,

Check the obvious things first, that the fans and grills are free of fluff etc.

Does it close down when you are using demanding software?

There are lots of free software programs to monitor temperatures, I use Speedfan.

Also propping up the latop to give an extra inch or so of airspace makes a big difference.

I use HWmonitor to scan temperatures, as well as SD card cases to prop up the back of my machine, and a cleaning-out of the fan and air intake about once a month.

WOW, ok, never realized how much YUCK would be back there. Yes temps were rising incredibly fast, cleaned the back out and am running without issue!!! had it for 2yrs and I've never been told to clean it... I can't imagine how many people take it in for 180 bucks just to have the mesh and fan cleaned off!!!!! Again, WOW. Thanks for your input and help!

Glad we were able to figure things out, ranilerryn!
Yeah, the user guide doesn't tell you to clean out the fan and mesh on a regular basis, but most users aren't comfortable enough opening up their computer and doing it themselves.
