I was interested when I saw that too.

I was told though that Acers could be quite unreliable.

Not necessarily, their low end budget systems can be as unreliable as an e-machine, but that goes without saying for any OEM's product. You get what you pay for. Their support is located in California for US customers, their warranties are actually pretty top-notch, and they are very good about releasing updated drivers for their laptops unlike a crapton of OEMS who release drivers when they launch their product line and never update them.

Though right now its too early to tell, since they havent released pricing or release date info yet. Either way this is definitely a laptop to watch, I can guarantee our company will more than likely carry these and I'll be sure to write up a review on it when that happens.

I was actually interested in the sister model (the 18" one)

From the circulating news articles around 3/14, it seems like a fully loaded (or at least a well-loaded) 18" model would cost around $2000.

Fantastic pricing if that's actually true.

Thank you for posting here in our Acer forum. The regulars here are all avid Acer users and supporters. And we all know Acer is going to play an even more dominant role in the near future of mobile computing (I have fought off many smart asses who tried slay to Acer). Point is, Acer is relatively new to the notebook world. Sure they had their problems with certain models. Like any notebook manufacturer.

The difference though is that Acer is a company that is poised for growth. With every new range they release, they get better and better. Design wise, reliability wise, quality control wise. They learn from their mistakes and build better laptops/notebooks. Unlike some other manufacturers who keep plodding along and rely on the past to secure the future. With no real innovation.

    The new Gemstones look brilliant.

I want one. Thing is, my Acer Aspire 5684WLMi is just so reliable, speedy and an absolute pleasure to use. (And it was from Acers "build quality issue" days). For me, no issues whatsoever. Solid and reliable. So I kind of "love" this lappie. Just seems to do the job. Without issues of any kind. Imagine what the future holds :D :D

My next lappie will definately be another Acer. I canno't wait to see what Acer has up it's sleeve when I am ready for a upgrade

    Cheers,
    Theo
