The first time I had this laptop, I had no problems of reading DVDs and CD with it. Now (several weeks after), Im having a hard time accessing my DVDs and CDs. Last time, when I double click the DVD-ROM drive icon, it automatically goes to a window that shows all of the contents of my DVD, but now it will just show a dialouge box trying to prompt me if I want to reformat the DVD/CD I have inserted.

Lat time also, when I insert a DVD or CD, vista automatically reads the contents, but now it doesnt :(

    Pls help me :)

Try to clean it. There are special CD's on the market for these jobs. With little brushes. They clean your drive while playing a song. Very neat :D
Try it, and if that doesn't work, I think there is little you can do, but bring it in for repair/replace.

I've just upgraded my 5920G with HD DVD ROM so I have 2 months old original Super Multi Rewriter sitting in a static-free plastic bag waiting to go on e-bay. If you are interested we can discuss it. I am in the UK.

I dont think is a hardware problem guys. My DVD can write DVDs and CD. It can also read DVDs and CDs but not the conventional way, I need to search the CD or DVD first so that I can see its contents. Suposedly you are just going to click the icons and it windows will automatically display the DVD/CD contents tight pero for mine its not :( I even tried putting a boot DVD into my drive and my laptop booted from the DVD, I guess my laptop does not work in Vista

What do you mean by "I need to search the CD first" What exactly do you do to access the content of a CD? You don't just click the CD icon in windows explorer?

Hmm can you run an updated antivirus.....I had a similar problem where to open a CD i had to right click on the drive icon and click open. The issue was a virus...Its just a chance..but you can try out to see

I have scanned my laptop for virus using AVG but found no virus. What I mean by "I have to search my DVD" is, I have to right click myDVDROM drive icon then choose "SEARCH" inorder for the contents of my DVD media to be displayed but when I tried clicking one of the icons of the contents of the DVD, a dialog box pops up asking if I want to format the DVD media :(

Hmm, I only know two more things you could do (the first helped with me, when I had some problems with my dvd-drive on my previous lappie)
try to physically disconnect the drive and plug it back in so that vista finds your drive again. Maybe it will start working again. (it helped me when my drive wrote cd's at only 8x while it could handle 24x). If that doesn't do anything, try a different driver.
Those are the last things I can think of :) good luck! :)

Perhaps you need the autoplay repair wizard, but I'm not sure if it works with Vista.

Hi I have the same problem. It won't read CDR and DVDR, probably after instalation some Vista update. I can still open content via Total Commander.

HI guys just wated to update you with my problem. I sent an email to our local Acer service center here in the Philippines. They replied and told me that maybe my os is currupted since its only in vista that my DVD wont work.

With that I reinstalled my vista using the erovery disc generated by the eRecovery software. Now my DVD is working fine :)

Well I found solution for this issue, it worked for me. So You have to go to the "Device Manager" and then to "DVD/CDROM Drive" and uninstall DVD drive. After restart every think should be like earlier.
