Hi, im planning on buying the Acer Aspire 5920 notebook.

Acer Aspire AS5920-6574 NoteBook Intel Core 2 Duo T8100(2.10GHz) 15.4" Wide XGA 3GB Memory DDR2 667 250GB HDD 5400rpm DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT - Retail

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834115458

I wonder if acer is trustable and if this product will last long. Do anyone here has this laptop? Is it worth it? Or should i get another brand laptop?

    Thx for your help.

It should not get hot at all on standy. My keyboard does not get hot even when I'm playing games but the bottom of it does get a little hot but nothing to worry about. When you mean standby do you mean like it is asleep and the screen and everything is off. Just the orange light flashing. If it is hot there is a problem. Mine is as cold as if it was shut off.

Acer support is very good now.

    My friend just bought a 5920G 832G32BN.

And it is very well built and very fast, it's got 3gb ram , T8300, NV9500GS with 512mb GDDR2, 320gb HD and Vista ultimate 64 not the crappy Vista ultimate 32bit in a Dell XPS M1530, I think acer has mastered how to make it a rock solid performer.

Unlinke many US-based, anti-acer kind of reviewers(many in Cnet, Laptopmag and PC mag sites) say how crappy it looks like , it is a cool laptop , with very powerful and high quality components.

Read some British or German reviews on it , you will quickly find out how well it performs in many tests.

Usually, German/British reviewers are very fair, cause there are no big German or Bristis laptop brands.

I'm now considering ordering 6920G for myself , Acer has changed in positive way and it is now winning the market.

I think you can trust Acer.....

I am using my friend's Acer 5920G(T8300, NV9500GS) , and it is very very fast and never gets hot.

Actually, my friend's 5920G has the NV9500GS with 512mb and it is running cooler than my HP8510p with ATI HD2600 with 256mb GDDR3, so I think you should send it in for service if yours getting really hot.

But it depends on how hot it gets, can you comapre it to similar Acer models at a local shop and tell us about how hot it gets (exact tempature)?

newtr0n acer 5920 is realy cool especially with that specs you mentioned.
No problem so far but I think acer sucks with drivers. They are too old and despite that fact that companies release newer one acer doesnt mode them fast enough. I went to dell's site and they rock! But if you consider the price and what you get i think acer is awesome. You might need a bit of search to find newer drivers if you dont want acer ones but still you ll have a cheap with very good specs notebook.

Sar_Van 81 if you are concerned that it might be a problem just go to the place you bought it and ask them if it is usual or not. I think this is the easiest solution to find out.

So far so good, but it runs a bit hot.

GPU 84 deg C under load.
CPU up to 89 deg C under load.

    AS 5920G with T5450 and Nvidia 8600GS.

Below 95C is safe for GPU. BTW overclocking level is unique ,so you wanna find it your self(You can read my BIOS flash guide[See my sig]to get some idea, but not recommend for newbies  )

    Hi...
You tried out my suggestion overclocking at 590/470 yet?? What was the result?? Remember that different laptops (even with same specs) will perform differently..so rule of thumb is go slow and be safe...

I recommend new Gemstone Blue model 6920G over 5920G. :D It's just better. Keyboard flex but everything else is much better.

I agree. Acer is number 1 in EMEA (Europe-Middle East-Africa) region for many good reasons (in Germany, too)!

I've had mine for 3 months now. The specs are the same as the one the thread starter linked to.

My laptop runs absolutely cool and the plastic above and below my keyboard remains cool during normal use. It gets slightly warmer when I'm coding and even warmer during gaming. Note that I said warmer because the computer never gets HOT!

Given the price, this thing is the best purchase I've made in awhile.
