I can't remember if this problem has always been there, or if it started as a result of a bios upgrade, but the GPU of my 5720 always has a 60C+ temperature, even when idle (Nvidia monitor), and the fan keeps coming on.
Others I have spoken to say that their GPUs have a temperature of 45-50C when idle, or in light use.

And today I experienced something weird. The computer had been in sleep mode for an hour or so, and when I started using it again, the GPU was at 48C, and strangely enough it stayed there, even with light to moderate use, and the fan never moved. After a reboot however, the temperature was back up to 62C, and the fan was blowing like crazy.

Anyone else have experienced this, or have a suggestion as to what might be causing it?

I am running Vista home premium, and the Bios is 1.34.

The temperature is equally high when running XP.

Should I try to downgrade the bios?

    Please help... :)

try cleaning the fan exhaust port where the heatsink fins are located... i have to clean mine out every few months otherwise they get clogged up and prevent max air flow... resulting in heat being held inside

I've already tried that, and also tried to add better quality thermal paste both to the cpu and the gpu.

The fact that it kept a stable low temperature earlier today, and that it shows the same behaviour in XP leads me to think that it is some sort of firmware issue.

Anyone know if it's possible to downgrade the firmware on these?
