Yesterday I decided to reinstall windows on my 5672. The recovery steps outlined by Acer didnt work (no clue why), so I tried installing with a copy of Windows I bought before getting the laptop.

I am running into a strange problem in the setup though - during the textmode part of the setup (blue screen), the program freezes when it displays "Setup is starting windows".

Does anybody know whats wrong so I can get around this?

I suspect its because XP doesnt have Intel 945PM chipset drivers, but beyond that I dont have anything.

I was sick of getting low 3dmark and pcmark scores do i decided to reformat my computer as well.. Everything worked out fine. All i did was stick in my own windows xp pro sp2 and used the cdkey on the bottom of my laptop. No freezing or anything. It boots up fine, and there was a huge performance boost. Before 3dmark06=255 now 3dmark06=850. And thats with 1gb of 667mhz.

Slipstream SP2 into your disc using nLite.

Shouldn't have any problems i can think of...

Apparently the problem comes down to SATA drivers (even though I am installing SP2). I had acer send me over the recovery CDs ... but when they arrived the System CD wont boot. I tried it on different computers and its just not a bootable CD. And the computer is not a problem because I installed Linux with no problems and other bood cds work just fine. Now acer is sending over a new bunch which will hopefully work.
