Aspire 5536 BIOS Failure

Hi everyone,

I have been trying to fix an aspire 5536.

When it powers on, there is no display, not even to an external one. It shows no sign of POST ing.

So I figured this is a BIOS issue, so I looked up how to do a CRISIS disk recovery from USB.

So I created that but I cant get the 5536 to find it, I have been pressing Fn + Esc when it boots but the USB never shows it has been accessed, should I wait a little while or something?

I should also note that when I turn it on the fan spins, but then it stops after about 5 seconds, even though the power light's say it is still on.

Any help on the subject would be greatly appreciated

An Update:

I left the laptop run for about 10 minutes, it seemed like nothing happened.

Then I turned it off, turned it back on, and, it worked! It booted into windows no problem!

I updated the BIOS immediately, the CRISIS utility didn't work even once.

The problem is, the problem still exists.

The results are repeatable, it won't POST at all, but if you leave it run until it gets warm, then reboot it, it works!

Does anyone know why something unusual like that would happen?

Take off the battery, disconnect the mains, press the power button for 30sec to 1 min, don't insert the battery, just connect the mains and see whether it helps. I am not sure this will rectify the fault but I found this on the net a while ago and remembered.

I have exactly the same issue. Even if use CRISIS or not if I reboot the laptop for 10 times it will boot into Windows only once or twice, but there is no regular basis, it may work two times in a row and five times not. Did you find a solution or maybe a cause for this behaviour?

Why not just put the laptop to sleep and rewaking it when you need it, instead of turning it off every time?

 

So hopefully this will be the solution to most people with this same problem.
Strangely on this Laptop in order for it to Post successfully the Cmos Battery needs to be present and above a minimum threshold Voltage which seems to be approx 1.5V which can vary slightly (Note: New Battery is 3V - CR2032)
Anything below the threshold voltage or No Cmos battery present and the laptop wont Post.
This is the first Laptop I have seen to show this behavior. I have seen this on a few PC Motherboards before but never a Laptop Motherboard until now.
Almost all Laptops and PC Motherboards will still post successfully without a Bios Battery or a Dead Bios Battery but Now you know there are a rare few which need a good Bios Battery present to post successfully.
Note: When a Laptop heats up it can slightly increases the voltage on a Cmos battery by maybe 0.1 or 0.2 of a volt so this could explain why sometimes the Laptop posts successfully after being on for 10mins as it allows the Bios Battery to get warm and increase above the minimum threshold voltage but this will only work a few times as eventually the battery wont be able to reach that minimum 1.5V so then Only a new Cmos Battery will sort the problem.
Hope this sorts the problem and explains the strange behavior for you guys.
Note: If the above does not sort your problem then you probably have a Faulty GPU - which is a BGA Chip that should only be replaced by professional BGA replacement equipment. (And Never with a Hand Held Heat Gun like a Paint Stripper)
