I'm looking for the service manual so I can do some upgrades on this laptop eventually.

CPU-Z says it uses a Socket 479 CPU, should be something better than a 1.73Ghz Celeron that will fit, the DVD-ROM/CD-RW combo drive has a plain, flat face- so that should be easily upgradeable to a DVD burner.

The main problem right now is the huge (over half the bottom) cover to get at the RAM (and it looks like the WiFi card and who knows what else) acts like it has snaps or is glued on. There's only 4 screws in it but it won't budge with them removed. It has a pair of PC4200 512M DDR2 DIMMs and I have another pair of same- I'm going to ask a local shop if they'll swap all 4 for a pair of 1 gig IF I can ever get the bleeping cover off.

The hard drive cover only took a little effort to remove after loosening its two captive screws. (How nice that 2.5" SATA drives use the same connectors as 3.5" SATA drives.)

With my 5102 the "huge panel" (correct name thermal panel) on the bottom where the ram CPU etc are located is not only held on by screws (4 or 5) but also little plastic clamps. So when I remove the screws I have to gently apply pressure until the clamps are released. Don't rush it take your time and unclip them one at a time to avoid potentially snapping off one of them. If your 5315 is anything like my 5102 the thermal panel should have a small indentation at the front, use that to initially get the panel up slightly and start to release the clamps one at a time.
