I just got the Aspire 5100 with Microsoft Vista and tested the internal mic and it wasn't very clear. So I tried just using my input microphone but it didn't work. I even went to the Sound Recorder in the control panel and put it as my default. I was trying to use MSN Messenger 7.5 btw. I could hear the other person just fine but they could not hear me at all. Please help!

Put devices that can cause electro magnetic fields away from the laptop [e.g. Speakers,CRT monitors]

Thanks for the advice. I did not have anything that caused electromagnetic fields around. Not even the TV was turned on. I was just wondering how I could fix the problem of the input microphone not working. I plug my microphone in and test it on the Sound Recording and it doesn't work.

Check the settings of the microphone in Windows Volume Control, which is normally the small speaker that can be found near the time. Make sure that the microphone isn't muted, and make sure the bar for it all the way to the top. Also, check the settings in the sound card software supplied with the notebook.

I have checked the settings for both Windows and Realtek HD Audio Manager and nothing is mute and everything is at its max. I have run out of ideas of what could be wrong. I know my microphone works perfectly fine since I currently use it on my old laptop.

Thanks for everyone's help. I called tech support and I'll be sending it in :( while I still have warranty. Again, thanks!
