Hi, getting really frustrated with this so all help welcome.

After I shut down the laptop, the power/wifi/hdd lights turn off. Then after 5-10 seconds, the blue charge light at the front comes on. When the power button is pressed the system goes through the normal startup and the blue light turns off. When the laptop is off there are no other lights or noises so I am certain the laptop has fully shutdown and is not sleeping or hibernating. However when I do put the laptop in sleep mode the blue light does not come on (i assume this correct. During the use of the laptop, the light is off. Its works normally when the power is connected e.g. orange when charging and blue when charged. If I take the battery out and connect to mains and shut down the blue light does not come on after shut down even though it is connect to the mains. The battery life is fine and i get 8 hours. when i leave the laptop off and the light is on, it only uses 10% every 24 hours of the power so the battery isnt losing charge quickly. What annoys me is taking the battery out every night so the light isnt on all the time.
    Thanks in advance

The blue light shuts down after a few hours, in my experience (4810tz owner, here). No BIOS options :(

thanks for the quick reply, however the blue light has been on for 2 days solid. i left the laptop on so it would run out of battery but for the last 24 hours, even though it does not have any power to bootup, the blue light is still on

Did you try removing the battery and holding the power button. Then plugging the battery back in? (resetting it?). If you are daring, remove the bottom panel, and unplug the CMOS battery (be careful. It's near the "front" fo the computer), then plug it back in to completely reset the BIOS.

My blue light is only on for about 2 hours after it finishes charging. Once I unplug the AC adaptor, it shuts off.

Just a note, have you tried installing all of the Acer "green" power saving software and then enabling them? It could be unrelated, but who knows? :p

Did you try updating the BIOS? (you probably don't have the special edition; it's listed under notebook-->aspire-->aspire 4810tzg).

    Acer Support - Download Drivers

I am looking in the BIOS, and there is no way to reset it internally (easily). Updating the BIOS *should* reset it.

Otherwise, the other way to reset the BIOS, without taking off the bottom cover, is to:

    Remove battery
    Unplug AC adaptor
    Wait 7 years.

I had the same problem with my 4810TG but after the upgrading the BIOS to the latest one the blue light turns off after a few minutes. Sometimes when the lights stays on for a long time I reload the latest BIOS and to fix the problem.
