    Hi,

I have an Acer Aspire 3000 series and when windows xp starts, my mouse-pad and keyboard is not working anymore.
With an exetrnal mouse i hve no problems, but the keyboard is still not working.

If i go to configuration>system, nothing happends.
Looks like there is some hardware/software problem.

I've already installed win xp several times, also diferent versions but with no success.
    What can i do?

sounds like a problem i've seen here a FEW times before..

let me guess, it's outta warranty??
if so,, your best bet may be a USB keyboard and mouse

If i connect an exterlan keyboard, it does still not work, just ti mouse.
If i startup in save-mode, then my mouse and keyboard works.
    That is strange, isn't it?

    try a quick restore...

that's the first thing ACER techs will do,, just so they can blame it on your software you have installed...

    later,

do you still have the HIDDEN PQSERVICE partiton on the hard drive?

i'm not familur with your model,, but all newer acer's have a hidden partition on the HDD that contains the source data from which uesrs are expected to
    make thier own recovery CDs

RIGHT CLICK "my computer",,, click MANAGE,,,then click DISK MANAGMENT (second item from bottom)

does it show a partition above the C: partition??
if so you may be able to make your own recovery disks

    check that and post back

    Hello Jason666,

I am having the same problem as you with my Acer Aspire 3000 laptop. Upon booting, the keyboard and mouse freeze. I cannot even shut the computer down. It seems to happen more when I boot the computer in the morning when it's cool (or even if I leave it off for a few hours). Typically, I have to unplug the computer and wait for the battery life to finish to be able to reboot. Once I reboot, it works fine - until the next time I have to boot it when it's cool.

If you were able to resolve your problem, please share. I am pulling my hair out at the moment.

Same problem here, all of a sudden. Did anyone find a solution?

I wiped the HDD & did fresh install of XP pro, and it boots to the "choose a user" login screen. Just as it boots to that screen the touchpad movement gets jerky then locks, and external USB mouse works, but laptop keyboard doesn't respond. But when I click 'Turn off Computer' I get hourglass(still movable w/ usb mouse) and have to pull plug & battery to shut off(holding power button doesn't work).

The laptop keyboard & touchpad work fine when run from Ubuntu Live CD.

Since Live CD doesn't touch the HDD & XP does, I ran extensive tests (about 5 hours worth) on the HDD using SpinRite 6 & everything seems 100% ok.

Then I discovered that the keyboard/touchpad/mouse work fine when I boot to XP into Safe Mode.

For the hell of it I ran memtest(while I did other errands) - it did about 50% of it's full "pass" and found no problems.

I have the same problem, I have reformated HD, and reinstalled using ACER recover disk several times. Work OK in safe mode, problem starts once windows loads. Also I can not complete windows install since mouse is not working.

I think I've seen issues like this before and I think it was solved by removing the battery, unplug the power cord, hold the power button for 30 seconds then put the laptop back together. Hope it helps.

OK, after spending 10 hours on this, I found other posting on the Web linking this problem to the battery. I removed my 2.5 year old (very weak) battery and all problems are solved. I guess that somehow the weak battery is somehow affecting the computer supply voltage.

Thanks, for the battery solution. That was the trick I was looking for. Had the same problem on an Aspire 3505WLMI: out of the blue the mouse and keyboard were freezing. Reinstalled three different windows XP discs and still had the problem. Yesterdau I ran Ubuntu Live CD 5.01 and now problems at all. Formatted the MBR, reinstalled windows again and could install all drivers without a hang of the mouse and keyboard. Today I started the system again and there we go again: mouse and keyboard freezes after startup of windows. Banged my head against the wall, search the net on a second machine and found this thread. After reading I realized that the battery was removed yesterday, whereas it was presented today. After removing the battery, restarting the system, no freezes of mouse and keyboard at all. So, finally the problem was solved. I am going to buy a new battery and see if that will work.
