I purchased Acer Aspire 1694 and less then 3 weeks lates discovered 1 cm crack on the left hinge. I can't imagine anyone could be more carefull with a laptop then I was. All the time since the purchase it was on my desk and all I was doing was opening/closing it and pressing the keys. Is it possibe that it cracked due to the stress caused by opening/closing? I hope it is not, but after closer look I have an impression the hinges are not very strong and they flex a lot.

    Crap! I hope this isn't doesn't happen very often. I'm just about to purchase a 1693 :S

Would cracked casing/hinges be covered by Acer warranty?

I've not had such a problem with my 1694, which I've had for probably about a month now, but that's not a great example. I would presume that the hinges would be covered since if they broke the machine would be in a rather poor state?
