I’m planning to buy Aspire 1692 WLMi it came with

    Acer Aspire 1692 WLMi
    Centrino 1.73 GHz,
    512 x1 MB Ram, (I replace 256x2 with 512x1)
    80 GB (4200 rpm),
    Double Layer DVD+ Writer,
    15,4" TFT WXGA,
ATI Mobility Radeon X700 128 MB,
    XP Home.

    $1,394.75 USD

I need some opinion on this product, anyone care to share?
I need for gamming, Bluetooth, DVDRW and Wide Screen. Is there any other product or model full fit my requirement?

Have a look at the Toshiba M40 (Canadian spec if you are in the USA), as the canadian version has a Geforce Go 6600 with 128MB DDR video ram. Has widescreen too, and all the other bells and whistles.

Also the Asus Z7V has the 6600 as well. About the same performance as the X700 in games.

With the Acer, check with the supplier that the Video RAM is full 128bit DDR/DDR2/GDD3 not el-cheapo 64bit DDR, someone rumoured the Acers to not use full spec RAM. So please check this one out and post back!

    hey safar..

i just bought an acer aspire 1692 wlmi around 3 weeks ago....

i just have to say that this is a really good notebook. for the price i paid for it - im getting my full money's worth.

as far as i am concerned, the only problem is that the speakers are really crappy, but i use desktop speakers with a subwoofer so i am sorted..

the screen is really good, but im not too sure about the dvd rewriter....it seems to spin really really fast sometimes....does anyone know if this is this normal....?

Humm.. I read few times about this DVDRW spinning sounds, maybe they had change new brand? However I’m still worry about it. I already place an order and will able to collect it next week. I haven’t made any payment yet, so it’s not too late for me to make any changes. I’ll be using DVDRW most the time because I will store files and movies in UDF format so that I can delete and update like thumb drive. Is this DVDRW sound too loud? How about heat when u places the notebook on your lap? I’ll be traveling a lot, by bus, plane and train. Maybe can watch movie while I’m free or do some paper work while placing on lap. How good is shook protection? When I first saw this model it was 1691, and the guy told me 1692 much better in speed and graphic. For my office use, I think Pentium 3 will enough but I want to use for games, movies, DVD and surf.
