Im curious if anyone got Linux working properly on this machine.
I had the following issues trying to install ubuntu (feisty):

    - wouldnt install from DVD. appears to be a SATA/BIOS issue. Had to make a bootable USB stick and installed from there
    - standby doesnt work. Neither does hibernate. also tried the alternate user space uswsusp (or something), even that would fail.
    - Wifi not supported (I have the intel 4965AGN card in it). There are some experimental drivers for it, but I couldnt get them to work.

Those are fairly serious issues for a laptop :/
Has anyone had more success, perhaps with a different distro ?

I also installed Ubuntu using the alternate cd. It installed fine. Then I used a tool called "envy" to easily download & install nvidia's latest drivers.

In addition to your problems, I have no sound. The sound card seems recognized but there is no sound. (Alsamixer couldn't solve the problem) There are some guides to get sound in ubuntu forums, but I didn't have much time to try those.

There is sound, but one of the mixers is set to zero. Open the sound control panel, add the all the mixers, I think its the one called "middle" or something that you have turn up.

Then you also need to change the binding of the voume control at the front. You can do that somewhere in system/preferences/sound.

Oh thanks :) It was the "surround" one.. I didn't think allowing surround would solve my problem =)

Was going to put PCLinuxOS on mine but stopped at making the partitions ready for Linux, since there isn't anything that I needed from Linux.

The PCLinuxOS LiveCD worked but Ubuntu one didn't, those 2 are the only ones i've tried, but maybe Sabyon might be best one to try out since its got Beryl loaded straight from the CD.

I have Slax on a Pendrive which works fine on this laptop tho i haven't tried to connect it to the internet with it.
