Well....I have an Ace Aspire 3680 with an i940gml chipset....so naturally would love to upgrade to a better motherboard which would support core 2 duos....After going through its service manual, it seems that the 3680, 5570 and the 5580 have the same motherboard structure and also on some websites which deal in acer parts say that the ZR1 motherboards which have i943gm, i945gm and i945pm are compatible with all the ZR1 models....and same is the case with the ZB2 models....now mine is a ZR1 model....MB.TEB06.001 and I am planning to upgrade to the MB.AZL06 or MB.TDX06 counterparts....
currently I am geting a MB.AZL06.003 which has the i943gml and a sata port for $160 shipped....but I thought what the heck if i wanna upgrade why not to an i945gm or the i945pm (which has an nvidia card -- acer 5580)....it is actually hard to find 'em on ebay and they are like for $400 on the retail websites....!!
So if anyone has had success with motherboard swaps with these laptops or any other....pls do advise
    Cheers :)

once you have tore that laptop down to the CPU upgrade phase.... the rest should be a walk in the park...
just be very aware of static electricity.....
and like they always say take lots of pics
and my FAV fantabu tip is use MASKING TAPE to hold screws for each section in groups (you can even write the location of the screws on the tape by using longer pieces and doubling the tape over 1/4 of it's lenght...
then just stick screws to exposed tape

    enjoy,
