Well there is a few ways to do it. I have to do it the hardway because i installed vista first then xp.
If you installed Xp first and vista on the second partition you will have no problem in dual-boot.
However if you plan to keep the Vista Home Premium then you need certain program.

1.If you plan to keep Original vista you need to recreate a new partition, use Acronis Disk Director to create a partition (You can use other partition manager like partition magic)
2.Now once you have the second partition ready you can installed XP onto that partition.
3.Well after you have done this part, you are no longer able to start your XP.
4.Now what you need to do is install VistaBootPro on your XP. Open you VistaBootPro>System Bootloader :
    Select Windows vista bootloader
    Select All drives
    select force bootloader installed.
(After completed step4 and you still can't boot your Xp, then you need to repair it using the Vista Bootable CD/DVD)
    5. Once you completed step 4 you can boot your vista but you need to installed VistaBootPro onto your Vista OS and create a Windows XP entries (Creating the Xp entries can be done before installing Xp)
To create the Xp entry you can use the VistaBootPro > Manage OS entries.
    Select Add New OS entry.
OS name what name you like example "Windows Xp Professionl"
    OS type : Legacy
OS drive : Which drive is the Windows Xp is installed.

If you have done everything above and still can't boot up the XP OS, you need to go to your Vista OS and make sure that the Xp partition contain these 3 files
    NTLDR, NTDETECT.com, Boot.ini

e30sep11- Yes I had exaclty the same problem, but only when I used a install disk which I had added the SATA driver to. If i used the normal install disk with the hard disk in IDe mode there were no problems.

I couldn't figure out how to fix it. In the end, what I did was install Xp in IDE mode, then once the install had finished you can change the driver the correct SATA driver, when it prompts you reboot, and go into the BIOS and change the disk mode to ACHI and windows should load correctly.

I do have a problem where the notebook will not power down, and stays on the windows is powering down screen. Has anyoe come across this and how do you fix it?

e30sep11 - the instructions are as I posted them before.

You will need the SATA drivers in the files on this post: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=2225300

After you have installed XP with the Hard disk in IDE mode go to device manager, find the hard disk controller item, right click and choose update driver. Don’t update from the internet, and on the next screen choose install from a specific location. Click the option which allows you to choose a specific driver. On the next screen click have disk and go the folder which you unzipped the drivers to, specifically the SATA drivers.

From the next list choose the 82801HEM/HBM SATA ACHI Controller click next and OK. Once you have finished you will be told you need to restart you PC. Do this, and when the PC is rebooting go into the bios and change the mode to ACHI. Windows should then load normally.

If you make a mistake you will get a blue screen error message and the computer will restart automatically. If this happens go back into the bios and change the hard disk mode back to IDE. When windows starts to load you will get a menu screen saying windows did not load properly. On this page choose use the most recent settings that worked and windows will load with the IDE driver.

The restarting problem is caused by one of the drivers, as if you load in safe mode and try powering down the computer will switch off ok. I can’t tell which one though, and when I tried installing windows again and loading the drivers one by one to try to find out which one it was I could not replicate the error. There are no problems now and my laptop now switches off normally.

    Thank you so much,
I purchased the Aspire 5920g with Vista pre-installed on it.
    What a pain ...

After I had installed Ubuntu Linux I found out what a wonderful machine it is. Fast and nice looking, too.

Now I need some apps which don't run under Linux and I want to get rid of Vista as quickly asap, because it is sluggish, takes ages to power down, its firewall lets all outgoing traffic thru aso.

    Thanx again,
    matt

I tried to install XP after downloading the latest BIOS and changing the HD mode to IDE. I also changed the boot sequence with DVD/CD first. Only to find out that the XP installation goes in loop. As you know when booting from DVD/CD you got a line saying "hit any key to boot from cd..." First time it did show, but after formating and restart it didn't show and the program started the very first sequence again with check of hardware and so on.
    Suggestions?

But that's the problem. I don't press any key at all. And normally, when dvd/cd is first in boot order you got that message every time, but as I said, it doesn't show at all after formating.

Well it's hard to imagine that, since I've just purchased it and used it some days with Vista. And I don't think any keys are stuck. But I will check with the store selling the computer tomorrow, and maybe purchase a new HD since I've considered replacing it with a 7200rpm anyway.
    Thanks

I was having the same problem on my 5920G when i downgraded from Vista to Windows XP SP2....
However i stumbled upon a custom Acer Middle East website with XP drivers...

I tried to look for similar drivers and found one under the Aspire 5720....
Downloaded and installed it and now my webcam works and my Windows shuts down like a charm...

    The website is:
    http://ameasp.acer.co.ae/customer/Notebook/Aspire 5720/XP Drivers/

    Download this file:
    (Suyin_app)_Acer Crystal Eye webcam V1.0.10_XP_Vista.zip

    This should work for ya...
    lemme know what happens....
will come by to this thread for the next couple of days so see the outcome ;)

Hey guys. I installed XP, installed all the drivers, but there is still this annoying "pci memory controller" in the device manager!!!
Is there someone with the same problem?
Or is it just that turbo memory is not supported by XP?
Pls tell me how to fix it!

    Hi canalegrande

How did you install Ubuntu in your 5920G? I wanted to but Im afraid I might delete the hidden partition needed by the recovery disk. Are there no problems that arose after installing Ubuntu? If there are what did you do? Hope you can help me and teach me how :) Vista as of this time is sluggish :( I wanted to experience the power of my laptop by using a not so hardware resource hungry os :) - [email protected]

    Hi all,

I've just installed XP onto my 5920G. I've installed the XP drivers from the
acer-euro FTP site. Everything seems to be working great. No shut down
problems or other problems mentioned in this thread.

I do, however, have a different problem. I can't seem to get a plug in
microphone to work. I'm only given two options as a microphone device.

    1. Realtek HD Audio Input (which I assume is for the built-in mic)
    2. Bluetooth Hands-free audio

How do I get a plug in mic to work?

Anyone tried to change IRQ? I have a PreSonus Firepod which is somewhat unstable. The PreSonus support suggested to try a FW adapter with TI chipset or change IRQ. I've tried the first but with the same result. Here is the answer from them:
    "Hi,

Sorry for the slow response. There are 2 possible issues causing your problem. The first one is the fact that the firwire port you have is using a generic chipset. One possible thing to try is to get a different firewire card for your computer that uses either a Texas Instrumments or VIA chipset, is 400 speed only, and has only 6 pin firewire ports.

The other possible problem is there could be an IRQ conflict going on between your firewire card and another hardware piece in your computer. Below is the IRQ conflict list that contains your firewire port and the conflicting items (I’ve highlighted the firewire port):

IRQ 16 Mobile Intel(R) PM965/GM965/GL960 Express PCI Express Root Port - 2A01 OK
IRQ 16 NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT OK
    IRQ 16 Intel(R) ICH8 Family USB Universal Host Controller - 2834 OK
    IRQ 16 Intel(R) ICH8 Family PCI Express Root Port 2 - 2841 OK
    IRQ 16 Intel(R) ICH8 Family PCI Express Root Port 6 - 2849 OK
    IRQ 16 OHCI-kompatibel IEEE 1394-vertskontroller OK

One or all of them items listed could be conflicting with the firewire port, causing the problems you are having. Unfortunately, the only way to get around this on a notebook, is to actually disable the conflicting items or possibly change them in the BIOS. I would, however, have an experienced computer tech do this for you if you have no experience doing this yourself."

Well there is a few ways to do it. I have to do it the hardway because i installed vista first then xp.
If you installed Xp first and vista on the second partition you will have no problem in dual-boot.

OS drive : Which drive is the Windows Xp is installed.

If you have done everything above and still can't boot up the XP OS, you need to go to your Vista OS and make sure that the Xp partition contain these 3 files
    NTLDR, NTDETECT.com, Boot.ini

    via w11son

i am at step 5 and now i need the NTLDR, NTDETECT.com, Boot.ini files.
i see the NTLDR, NTDETECT but no NTDETECT.com.
when it's booting into xp, it saids unable to load NTLDR.
