So, after a long hiatus I think I'm back! Hello! :)

Anyway, so I've been looking around for Acer's new laptops (can't break the habit, y'know. Acer!) and I still see that here, at least in Asia, there's this pretty cool naming convention Acer stuck to even after they switched over to the new i-series of processors. So I was looking at a new Aspire laptop I saw here in the Philippines, which is the Aspire 4745G- 5462G64Mnks (i 5460M 2G[of ram] 640GB hard drive, with the Mnks, I don't know what that is) and it's got a pretty decent config, with the Radeon 5650. But then, pan right, I see a TimelineX 4820TG- 5462G64Mnks!

So I went around comparing its basic specs, and I see absolutely NO differences, hardware-wise, other than the Aspire's 4400mAh battery pack vs. the TimelineX 6000mAh pack. As with the appearance, the TimelineX has this special finish while the regular Aspire only has a piano black (with stripes I believe) finish. And also apart from the preinstalled Windows OS on the TimelineX, there technically isn't anything else different between them. So...how can I explain that the TimelineX costs about $150 more than the regular Aspire?

So does the different battery pack and the different finish explain the price difference?

Remember Kisetsu, the TimelineX series is meant to be Acer's ultra-portable series. That being said, the Aspire does have an optical drive.

As for the $150 difference, look no further than the top line of the specs on each link. The TimelineX comes with Windows 7 Home Premium; the Aspire only has DOS.

Well, yeah, here in the country Win7 Home Premium costs more or less the same as the price difference, but the Aspire unit I saw in a shop here had an OS (plus all the Acer bloatware) preinstalled, too. So I don't know if it's because of that.

Well, on one side though, the cool "TimelineX" badge on the right palmrest seems to be worth the difference. JK.

Hm. Strange. I noticed just now that the linked 4820TG doesn't have an ODD listing. TimelineX does have an ODD, right?
