I am headed to University next year and I need the best laptop possible for less than $2500. Some computer guy I know recommend Acer...what do you think about this company and their laptops?

I got an Acer Aspire 5021 about 3 weeks ago and I'm very happy. AMD Turion 64 is an absolute beast, and the screen is a beauty to behold. Keyboard is not great tho.

$2500 is a hell of a budget and you could buy top of the range with that kinda money. You might not have to spend that much to get what you need.

Where are you going to University and what course are you doing? This might help people make more informed posts.

/edit/ I completed my masters degree in eCommerce over the last two years with an IBM Thinkpad P111 without any problems.
