It's an Acer Aspire 5570 and eRecovery Management is version 2.5.3002, if that is relevant.

When I open eRecovery -> eRecovery Management -> Burn Disc, there are the four options. Factory Default, User Backup (greyed out because I haven't made a backup file), Current System Configuration, Applications and Drivers. The last two options work, but when I click on Factory Default nothing happens.

What gives? Have I overlooked something very obvious? I only want a factory default CD. :( Thanks in advance.

    that is strange as heck,,,,

i burned 3 copies of factory recovery DVDs on the same machine (since my family bought 3 of these cheap 5315's i saw no reason to burn recovery CDs on the 2 that didn't get burners added to them...

the only reason that i can think of that would cause the box to be grey'd out would be if the software couldn't locate the hidden partition (usually named PQSERVICE)

but in testing this... i booted up an ACER i'm repairing... and after doing a FACTORY RESTORE from DVDs created, the eRecovery application is not even there, NO WHERE.... can't be found....

what i suggest you try is to download the ERECOVERY SOFTWARE and reinstall it... and see if the problem is still there... if it persists, then try calling ACER and complain. in your case they may actually send out a FREE set of official recovery DVDs....

Thanks for responding so quickly, bigozone. I'm glad to hear the issue isn't likely to be my own foolishness. :)

I'm downloading Acer eRecovery now - 2.5.3011 is out, so I'll give that a try.

Older versions of eRecovery on different machines have worked just fine for me. It's just this particular setup being troublesome.

    Update:

It appears eRecovery doesn't like external burners, which is a bit of a problem as the internal one is dead.

Is there a way to make an factory default image on the hard disk so I can then burn it to a DVD using different software?

Edit: That's not it, the other burning options recognised the external burner. So the original issue remains. Argh!

I have one idea .... not tested ... but with good presentage to work.

The Erecovery uses as base burning software the NTI .. or it looks that way.

If you can possibly update the standard version with a modern one.
Its possible the external burner to work .

one way around that problem may be to remove the internal burner...

the recovery software may be limiting it's options to the FIRST bruner it sees.
and if that were the case (i have no clue) it's possible that by taking the faulty burner out of the system might allow the external to be used.

just an idea,,, may work.... then again it may not.... it's up to you if you want to try it...

i took a look in running processes Ctrl+Alt+Del and saw ehRecvr.exe running so i burned recovery dvd's. then i made sure there was no ehRecvr running in processes.
it would let me burn app's dvd but not the recovery [IMG]

    check you have ehRecvr running
    then try and burn dvd's

I am having the exact same problem on the exact same laptop 6920 running vista 64.

I am also unable to get the dvd drive to burn any disks any way. I have tried to have vista 64 format it, the NTI backup program, and multitude of other methods. If any of you acer guys have any ideas I would love the help.

    Thanks
