Hi guys, i bought a laptop that i believe has a faulty graphics card. It worked when i got it but it was a bit unstable at times. I decided to replace the geforce 8400m gs with a 9 series geforce. I purchased one second hand and tried it and it didnt work. I then put the old one back in and now i only get a black screen. The laptop powers on and the fans run but the screen is black. I'm not sure if this is still the graphics card or maybe the bios. I realised also that i should have updated the bios before trying a newer card.

Basically i need some assistance in trying to update the bios blind as i have never done it before. I have downloaded the v1.45 bios files from here http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_7720.html and i have a winzip file with the following files:

    CL50_rel.txt
ICL50145_winflash.zip (inside is the file ICL50145.exe)
    ICL50145A.zip (inside is the following files: CL50145A.fd , fla.exe , if50.bat)

I have a usb drive that i can use. I have read that you can use FN + ESC with a usb flash drive and some acers. Will this work? what files do i include? I dont want to make a mistake with it.

    Thanks

    Mike.

Use Fn+Esc, with a CD. Rename CL50145A.fd to ICL50HW.FD, burn it to a CD, remove the battery from the laptop, press and hold Fn+Esc, plug in the charger, press the Power button, release Fn+Esc, and insert the CD. The BIOS should be loaded.

Note that there is an MXM-patched BIOS available for the 7720G in the "Possible fix for the X920G vs. 9600M GT issue" thread, which may improve 9000-series compatibility.

    Hi :)

    This is for you :

    request download ticket | ifile.it

    1) Donwload the original firmware 1.45
    2) UNpack the original firmware with Winrar or other.
    3) Download the file above.
    4) Rename the donwloaded file with the original name of the bios.
    5) Flash it ! (the flashtool works directly in Win 32or64 bit, no probs)

    6) if some problems appears, please read this :

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/acer/582437-complete-guide-fix-numpad-after-bios-update.html

This bios is the "Full power" mode of 7720G, oriented for advanced users
and to solve some MxM Problems compatibility.
but it WORK PERFECTLY on 7720G.

    I know there's a versionG of modded bios for 7720G , but i wait after a response ;)

PS : Netroller Faster than me, lol

@Doze: No "Unpack original firmware" - he has a black screen, so can't flash from Windows. Fn+Esc method is needed.

No, this method is specific to Insyde BIOSes. Yours is Phoenix. There is a similar method for Phoenix BIOS, but it requires a USB floppy drive, and has had mixed success.

oh ok. well ive got no more ways to update it. does it requires both cores enabled to update bios? if it requieres them, i guess that at restart they will enable automatically. and if it does that im kinda doomed because the laptop will turn off during the update and i will lose my laptop :(

Try reflowing the 8600M GT to get it back to work temporarily. The 9600M GT likely needs a VBIOS update - is it a 512MB DDR3 model? (The 1GB DDR2 one is known to have odd compatibility issues.)

Hello there Netroller, your knowledge rocks! I have a question if u could help me. I got a 9600m gt 1gb ram ddr2 for my acer aspire 7720g (the one that comes with t9300, 9500m gs, 4gb ram and 320gb hdd). Im kinda confused because i dont know if software can recognise the hardware. I'll post these 4 screenshots to make a try to get understood..

So, i went to nvidia site, where the auto hardware detects the card.. as it seems in the first screenshot.

In the second screenshot it says that "The nvidia setup wasnt able to continue because the graphics drivers could not find compatible hardware"

The third ss is the hwinfo that sees the gpu.

The fourth is the gpuz that detects my gpu as "typical vga adaptor"

And in the fifth ss it is taken from device management where in the screen adaptors my gpu it is also seen as "typical vga adaptor".

Sorry for screenshots beeing in Greek.

Now, what should i do? i saw THIS 7720G UPGRADE and i think im gonna try it.

    Any suggestions?
