Hey guys. Ive had conflicting opinions on whether this laptop would support 2GB or 4GB of memory so I decided to experiment a littoe.

It came with 2x512mb stickls and I just got my 2GB stick in the mail today. I opened it up and it booted perfectly with the 2gb stick. Then just to see I stuck one of the 512's in next to it. It booted perfectly again, however, windows only showed as having 1.99gb of memory.

I have heard of windows not booting up on this laptop at al;l when more than 2 gb are inserted. What gives? Could it be thatg the memory is there but windows for some reason isnt recognising it?

    Specs:
    Acer Aspire 5610Z laptop
    Pentium D T2060 1.6 Ghz
    2-2.5 gb memory
    windows xp media center edition
intel gma 945 chipset (the limiting factor in the memory issue i think)

    Opinions?

The 945 should allow you to install 4GB but you won't get all of it available (regardless of OS). Mine shows around 3.3GB with 2x2GB modules installed.

mine shows 1.99gb regardless of if i have 2gb or 2.5gb installed...surely there would be some difference?
