Hi there, Im considering upgrading the memory of my laptop to 400mhz but im not entirely sure wether acer is using the standard so-dimm or something with non standard dimensions, reason i ask this is the fact that Kingston offers memory for this laptop in special and it is only 333mhz and it costs about 20€ more per stick of 512 than normal kingston 512 400mhz ddr so-dimm. So is this just marketing or is there a difference in the memory types?

Hi, im also thinking of upgrading my 5021's RAM memory :) .
Well, you wrote that you wanted a 400mhz memory, I don't think you could use a 400 mhz on your laptop. A program I have on my laptop called Everest tells me that my memory is running at 166 mhz. So I guess we have to buy memorys running at 166 and not 400mhz, am I wrong, or?

I upgraded my 5002WMLI's memory to 2GB. You want standard PC2700 DDR SODIMMs which operate at 333MHz. Putting in PC3200 (400MHz) won't help as the laptop operates the memory at 333MHz anyways (that is, the memory does not control the speed, the laptop does -- unless you put in slower memory which probably just won't work. I put in 2 1GB Kingston KVR333X64SC25/1G SODIMMs.

Mr. T is right (hey do you watch the A-Team... :p)

You wouldn't see a performance gain even if the memory ran at PC3200 400MHz speeds - 2.4% approximately.

I recommend Corsair, Crucial, and Kingston memory.

Thanks for the replies, I thought it supported 400 mhz ddr because of the integrated memory controller in the Turion64 processor. I also asked a while a go from the support whether the laptop supports 400mhz and they said it should work okay.

The 400MHz memory will work, just that it will run at 333MHz. If it costs the same, not a problem.

ChazMan421 - I think I watched the A-Team when it was new; not in syndication :p

Here in Finland I have read several messages from 5021 users that have replaced original 333MHz memory to 400MHz and it really works 400MHz just fine.

    -Edit-
I have now replaced originall samsung memory to kingston 400MHz pc3200 and it really works 400MHz.

    The memory type is:Kingston KVR400X64SC3A/512
