I've got an Acer 8204 which just came back from having its mainboard replaced. Now, when I try to open an Autocad file (Autocad 2006 LT) I get an error message saying that the file can't be found. I click 'OK' and then the file opens.

Has anyone had any similar issues, or can you suggest any solutions?

    Thanks,

    Neil

Did you reinstall AutoCAD after having it's mainboard replaced? It can be some kind of registry problem or something like that. My 5672WLMi doesn't have any problems with AutoCAD 2006, 2006 LT or even 2007 and everything has worked fine.

No, I haven't reinstalled it yet. All other software is working problem-free. I will try that.

    Thanks,

    Hi

If the mainboard (Iguess you mean motherboard) has been replaced you better reinstall everything.
So many IDs, VIDs, PIDs etc. that could be different, even it it looks like it is working normally.

I've reinstalled autocad but the same error happens. Additionally, I got the following error when I tried to close the program:

    unhandled c000001eh Exception at 12ffcoh

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Neil

Should've asked this before - did you reinstall your windows after you got your mainboard replaced? If not, you *may* have to re-install windows. The error sounds like it has something to do with the registry, but I can be wrong.

I haven't reinstalled windows. I wonder why that would be necessary. Are elements of the program somehow tied to the motherboard? Other software - office, firefox, norton anti-virus, etc. - all seem to work.

My firewire port did not work with my initial 5672, I recieved a replacement from CompUSA. I removed the hard drive from the old unit and put it in the new (replacement) unit and everything started up and ran fine, no problems. Unless one of your programs is using the serial number of your processor, graphics processor or something else on your motherboard you should not have a problem.

Well, I went to reinstall windows yesterday and noted that there were a number of Windows updates that had just been installed. So I tried running autocad one more time, and now it works properly. No error messages. I've run it, rebooted and run it again, and it all seems to work properly.

I've always held the belief that computers require at least as much art as science and that the art involved has as much to do with magic as anything else.

Thanks for all of your helpful suggestions.
