    Hi All,

I have had Acer laptops for the last few years (5738G,5920G,6920G and 6930G) and bought a number of them for friends and family.

I recently decided I wanted a new Icore cpu laptop and bought a 5742G (I5) and took it back because the webcam was appalling and the 'mono' speaker.

I decided to treat myself and get an Acer Ethos 5943G believing it would be better. Sound wise, build, look etc I am pleased to say 'yes' but again the webcam is utterly rubbish.

Anyone know why the newer models are using inferior webcams?

    Cheers

Like a lot of Acer Laptops Screens, WebCam quality are like lottery, sometimes you get good ones like SuYin High Mega Pixels, sometimes you get low grade chicony.
I have a Old Acer Timeline with high quality SuYin and my Acer 4740G on low quality Chicony.

Is this video representative of the quality of your Suyin webcam? I almost thought the uploader was lying because I couldn't believe how much clearer it was than my webcam (Chicony). :p

Yep exactly that was the SuYin WebCam on the older Timeline but unfortunately the Timeline is NOT MINE.
My Aspire has the lousy Chicony. :(
If I remember the Timeline could do up to 1080p (when you install Certain Version of the WebCam Driver) but the CULV SU2700 Processor would lagging and start frame dropping.
