    When i start the laptop, it stops on the first bootscreen with acer logo on and appears a small icon on the top left showing a small computer with a key next to it.....what the earth is that......by the way, it doesnt do anything after that.....

    i would suggest that you press f8 during start up so that u may log on using safe mode and then use system restore to get back to your older settings that worked

    it looks like the machine is locked.........it lets me press only F12 to go to multiboot selection and then nothing.....stays there...

    different machines have different buttons to press during bootup so that you could go into the bios but thats quite strange as i havent heard of machines getting locked up until unless you had done something prior to shut down the last time around
