found this site off the acer site

    http://global.acer.com/products/notebook/tm3200.htm#

did a google search and can't really find anything.

i recall reading on the forum that the HDD that comes with it is a 4200rpm

but i also wanted to know more about the lcd etc

some1 told me that laptops just aren't for playing games because the laptops lcd is just slower to recieve the signal (he said something about being less than 16)

i tried to search about this laptop's lcd but no luck.

anyonw have any idea if this system has detailed specs out?

if not, anyone who has this system can it play Counter-strike smoothly?
it has the 9700 with 64mb ram but im also worried about the overall.

    thanks!

    Nathan,

As a fellow Canuck, you can locate the specs directly from the Acer Canada website ( www.Acer.ca ). This should be able to answer most of your questions.

The HDD is a 4200rpm drive as some users here have had the unfortunate experience of finding out after buying the unit. All this after Acer specifically told them it was a 5400rpm HDD, but these users have had the issue resolved (Acer sent 5400rpm HDD replacements to them to swap out).

What did you want to know about the LCD? It's a 14.1" XGA LCD (1024x768 resolution).

Your friend is talking about the response times of the LCD's. I don't think it's slower receiving the signal, but it's just that the LCD can't change fast enough which causes ghosting. I don't think there's many LCD's that would be below 16ms. Sony's desktop LCD's are 16ms, but you're paying a lot for just a monitor. Generally, anything below 25ms is acceptable, but the lower the better. Some HARDCORE gamers may notice the slight lag if at 25ms, but most users will not notice. Generally happens with FPS/action games, or anything that is very fast. Most people on this site use their notebooks now to play things like Doom 3 and FarCry, so I'm sure it's more then OK to use for games.

The specs are available on their Canadian website I posted above. It contains all the specs you need, except for the LCD response times, most brands will not list this information for notebook LCD's.

Counter-Strike is an older game, so an ATI 9200 will be more than enough to play this game. An ATI 9700 GPU is one of the most popular/powerful GPU's for notebooks at this time. It's capable of playing Doom 3 at MED settings, and this game is VERY demanding on the GPU, so it'll play CS without any problems.

What "overall" are you worried about the card? It's probably more power than you really need. Don't worry about the 64MB of memory, this too is more than enough to play games. There's nothing that needs more than 64MB, if it does, it'll just dump into system memory (that's why you should also get a lot of ram).
