I've been trying to solve this problem for ages - has anyone else experienced it?

I recently wiped clean my Acer 1690 laptop (which has an ATI Mobility Radeon X600 chip and a 15.4" wide screen) and reinstalled Windows and the original drivers. Problem is now many of the fonts on the screen are too large for the dialog boxes that they sit in. This occurs across Windows and its programs but not all fonts in all dialog boxes are affected.

All font sizes are set as normal in the Display applet, the DPI is right, resolution normal etc. I tried updating to a newer ATI driver but the problem persists. I can't figure out what's causing the over-sized fonts.

It's been difficult to search for a solution as the terms are used so widely in other contexts.

    Any ideas? Frustrated yet hopeful,

right click - properties - apperance tab - advanced - then you see a drop down menu and choose the necessary problems (icons' text, menu, titlebar etc)

    or...

right click - properties - settings - advanced - "general tab" - DPI setting

Thanks for the response but I've checked all that. The DPI is default on 96 - I even changed it and put it back to see if i could flush out a gremlin. Didn't work.

I've checked through all the graphical items too making sure the fonts are right and they are. Also switched from one windows theme to another including the classic non-XP themes. No avail.

I can't even wipe my laptop clean because - uh - that's what i did that caused this problem.

    See - tricky, huh?

This is confusing me as well. Try a modded ATI driver, they usually change the system's font sizes and stuff to whatever their default is. Omega is notorious for doing this to me causing me to lose all my icon placements. Try it out and see if it fixes it.

I didn't know you could get modded ATI drivers. Interesting, Tried Omega but the problem persists...

    FIXED-

For anyone who's interested I fixed this. There were some missing entries in my registry at:

    HKLM\Software\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Fonts

I copied the entries from my other computer, restarted and felt mildly elated

Ah good stuff. I wish there would be a sticky accumulating all of these fixes to random miscellaneous things.

Hey, I have the same problem here but with a dell inspiron 6400 and I'm on XP. Can you give me the exact location of those missing entries? I can't find them.
