    Hello!

My old 40GB harddisk in my Acer TravelMate 800 notebook crashed, so I tried to replace it with a 120 GB HD which did not work. Now I tried the Maxtor "STM940215A" 40GB harddisk - same problem: the harddisk is recognized by the bios but while booting the system hangs up (it does not even start). When I run the WinXP installation, the harddisk is recognized too, but after the first reboot (during installation), again the system hangs up with an empty prompt.

Can you give me hints why this notebook does not work with new harddisks? I also tested the harddisks on two other Acer notebooks (~2-3 years old) - same problem :(.

    Regards,

yes, I am using the latest BIOS version ("4a20") from the Acer support site.
The header of the old HD crashes every x hours, so it is unuseable (besides it makes a lot of noise).
