The display died, initially it came back after a short while and lasted a few more days but now it seems the backlight is dead. I'm typing this on the laptop connected to an external LCD monitor. Since the backlight died,
the bottom middle section of the bevel (where the "acer" logo is stuck on)
    has become very hot.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you.

It seems like the inverter board fried... You will need to send it to acer to get it repaired....

Judge by model i say you laptop is out warrenty am sure can find invert board for you model online and get some to replace it for you if you send acer they most like try to sell you whole display

We have changed alot invert board they not hard to do you just got make sure not back light the invert cound be fine but back light cound be toasted

both can be replace invert is alot easy then back light

I have changed back light they are tottaly pain very small light tube the get stuck in back of panel they can be replace so can inverts

I can tell this if you laptop is out warrrenty find good 3 party company to replace parts it will be alot cheaper

Thanks for the advice. I also found a link for an aspire model where only the fuse blew.

Should I try the above, what do you think?

    Thanks!
