Does anybody know when the Acer Travelmate will be released in the US? Has anybody heard of any reviews of this notebook? I have been thinking about the ASUS W3V but saw this posted on another forum and it looks pretty nice, but then again, most laptops do on the manufacturers site. Any comments/suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    lilpeein

Sorry, I meant to say the travelmate 3210, if anybody didn't get that from the title.

    Hi,

it arrived today, I am holding it in my hands :) I will probably post a review soon.
One thing I noticed however is that the manual specifies the battery life with only up to 2.5 hours for the 6 cell battery. Somewhere on the Acer website I thought I had seen a 9cell battery, but the store I bought the Travelmate from does not know about them :(

Can't wait to see a review, is this the one with the x700 or does it have integrated Intel?

It has the integrated Intel, I am not sure the X700 version is available in Canada.

Would be very interested to hear about heat & fan noise issues (as per problems with the Acer TM 3000 series) ?

Also does this have an old-fashioned matte screen ?

well the 3201 i have doesn't have fan problems, it only comes on from time to time, but the heat is a bigger problem, it gets irratating as the left part of the laptop gets too hot to touch. :eek:verheat:

    Hi,

I've been using the TM3212 for a couple of days now and I love it. I started writing a review, but life is hectic and I will probably not finish it until next week - sorry about that. The screen is matte, and the battery life I get out of it is more than the advertised 2.5-3hrs.

If I set the screen to minimum brightness, the processor to minimum speed, no hd activity, working per cygwin/ ssh-forwarding over a wireless connection, I get about 3.5 hours of battery life. Not bad for a 6 cell battery :) I asked around for a 9 or 12cell battery that I had read about somewhere, but neither the folks at the store nor Acer knew anything about it as of last week - they said the model was too new :)
Pure idle rundown time is about 4.5-5hrs.

As for the heat - running on minimum processor speed the fan hardly goes on and the laptop stays really cool. Turning the speed to max will immediately start the fan, which can be noisy, and the area around the touchpad will get warm - but not hot! However, I always use min processor speed as I was mainly using it for programming/ typing.

    Hi,

the TM3212 seems really light to me, but I owned a SONY PCG-NV205 before, which was about 9lbs!! The specs say it's about 5lbs and to me it feels really light :)
