I have two Acer netbooks and they both run much slower when running on battery, particularly when browsing the internet. I've changed the power settings to "Always On" and "Home/Office" and it helps, but it's still not as good as when plugged in. Does anyone have any suggestions on anything else I can do? Also, does "Always On" or "Home/Office" provide faster performance when on battery power?

Not familiar with a Netbook. If they use the Acer Empowering Technology though, simply open said program and set the puter' up the way you want it to behave when running on batteries.

Best advice I can think of

It only has eRecovery Management and not any of the other programs. It's an XP computer. I'm also trying to figure out how to stop it from automatically dimming whenever I go to battery. I've searched all over the place, but haven't been able to find anything.

You need to install additional ACER software.
Only then you will have control over CPU speed and display.

Check your netbook CDs , for additional utilities.

There is no additional software. The only "Empowering Technology" software available for the netbook is eRecovery Management.

I also just bought an Acer netbook with the 8gb ssd drive, and I find it painfully slow, even when plugged in (although substantially faster than when it runs off battery). Is there a big performance boost using a spin drive instead of the ssd? With the current performance I'm getting this thing is nearly unusable, so I'm definitely considering returning or upgrading it.

How slow are we talking and for what usage? Since it has the same specs as all netbooks, web browsers should open instantly, iTunes should run smoothly, the only unusable performance you should be experiencing is doing CPU intensive things such as video encoding, Blueray videos, etc.

Btw is all the bloatware uninstalled and is there nothing running in MSconfig besides the essential programs?
