    Hi people,

I was a proud owner of the Ferrari 4005 until recently when we had a break-in our office and was taken away from me. Since then, I've been looking for a replacement laptop and as one would expect, I've been looking at the 5005 model.

Firstly, I must admit that I'm suprised that there aren't so many reviews of the 5005 model when compared with the 4000 series, and considering its been out for over a year and a half, I would have expected a wider coverage.

Secondly, I'm also finding it hard to locate a dealer (in Greece) that sells the 5000 series. It seems like none of the main distributors are importing the product - which makes me think twice about it. I've contacted various companies in the UK and most of them don't sell it anymore! If you also take in consideration the fact the 1000 and 4000 series are available, it makes me think that there's something more about the 5000 which I haven't managed to inform myself about.

So here I am, asking for this great community and mainly any proud Ferarri 5000 owners for the opinion on the model and their general experience.

I really would like to know how the laptop goes with battery runtime, heat buildup and fan noise.

The older series (4000) did tend to get a bit warm on the right side of the keyboard and the fan was constantly on, no matter what you did and it simply got worse as you started working with applications, not to mention the games!

At the moment I'm contemplating between the Ferrari 5005 and HP 8510w (which is not compareable to the 5000 in performance), but the 5000's design is a strong factor for my selection, along with its brilliant glossy screen.

Closing, I'd highly appreciate any feedback and experience owners are willing to share with me.

    Thanks!

I would definately consider something newer such as the aspire 5920G; acers newest machines are superior in build quality and reliability in comparision to their older units.

And just because one person has a bad experience doesn't mean that you can assume that every single acer machine is bad :)

There a lot of people that have problems with lots of companies, doesn't mean they're all bad... however i wouldn't go for the ferrari 5000 simply because of its age

Yes, but asus seems to stand out. They're exceptionally good at screwing up, which seems to be the only category they stand out in. Dell is working hard on that too, but they have plenty to fall back on.

I have owned 4 Acer Ferrari Machines and will never buy another Acer again. They kept my laptop for 3 months, never fixed it, which it only had a key falling off and 1 mouse button stick, to a machine that won't boot up, missing powercord up, cracked LCD, broken LCD buzzel, and destroyed collectors box.

Their customer service is the worst in the business, never return your calls, have admitted to changing notes based on phone calls, said the machine was damaged upon arrival, even though I have photos they sent me of the machine upon shipping and once they got it, as 1 of their techs sent me 3 photos and the machine was in perfect condition at that point.

Tell you that customers can not talk to managers and your only allowed to deal with 1 level of service. They have been a terrible experience. I love the Ferrari brand, but I will never buy another Acer.

You are most welcome not to buy an Acer again, but do not post in or bump old threads. Got something to say, open a new thread and speak out....
